So, yeah. I'm like 1/8th German.

I am Polish, Romanian, Checkoslovakian, Russian and English. It is much easier to say that I am an Ashkenazi Jew as I indeed am and those guys went all over eastern Europe.

I like looking at where my ancestors came from, but some people do get annoying about it.
"Oh, you're part Irish? That explains quite a bit then." WTF?

My ancestors come from the U.K. (different parts) but I was actually born in Russia. But I was raised in North America.

OT- this only really annoys me when people use their tiny, fractional heritage to a certain country as an excuse to celebrate the festivals of that country.

Here I'm looking at the people who go out and celebrate St Pat's day when they've got a negligible amount of Irish blood in them.

Be fair I don't really worry about telling racist jokes. I have a black guy in my family tree.

He's been hanging there for about 3 weeks now.

There's a difference between cultural heritage and genetic heritage. My great-great-great-grandfather came from England to Australia in the nineteenth century, so I have a bit of English in me, but I don't identify as culturally English. but my mum came over from Finland when she was a kid, and I go there sometimes, and I do identify as a little bit culturally Finnish.

Sounds good to me. I'm Canadian, and I gave up on my family tree long ago. Let's just say I'm part <name absolutely any country in Europe. Any country. I dare you>.
This.

Scottish, Irish, German, a bunch of countries for me.

I just hate it when people try to brag about it. I don't care if you say you're a diverse racial rainbow; if you act like any other North American guy, then the fact that your great-great-great grandfather was half-Irish doesn't mean anything at all.

I AM CANADIAN!
Which is good enough for me, anyway. I'm not particularly concerned with what country a bunch of my dead ancestors came from. From what I understand though, my great-grandparents on my mother's side were all straight from the Republic of Ireland, and I think my grandfather was born there, but then went straight to Canada...then my dad's side is a mess of a bit of english, scottish and a bit more irish. There's a tiny bit of french apparently, but I've no fucking clue where.

Actually, finding out your ancestry is pretty cool, but I can't say it really has any bearing on my life.

What a coincidence.

I'm 1/8 Jewish.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that genetically speaking, he's 1/8 Jewish.
So he should say one-eighth Hebrew.
Every jewish person on TV is either introduced or introduces themselves first by saying that they are jewish. Is it just me that notices this?

Unless you're a white-male-Christian, you're unusual enough to have to explain your background.

I don't care if they go back to their grandfather. After that it doesn't work. I'm Italian on my mother's side. Scottish on my dad's. I'm Scottalion!

They're an ethnoreligious group, it gets kind of complicated. There's a sort of debate over the question "Who is a Jew?", actually.

I come from a pretty narrow gene pool. Parents and Grand-parents and Great Grand-parents are scottish. Somewhere down the line it splits and there's a little bit of Irish. I think if you trace it back far enough, the clan that my familly (at least on my Dad's side) is supposed to be part of origionaly emigrated from Germany around 1000 AD.

But apart from the little bit of Irish and the tiny inseeny-weeny bit of German, i'm like 97% Scottish

All I know is that I come from some depressives and diabetics.
MUCH more useful information than whether your 1/8th something or not.
