I have several good friends in real life as well as online. I talk about the same things with both sets have several of the same interests. The only difference is that I talk with one set face to face and the other over a microphone.

Would you consider playing with people online a social experience?

One can not dispute that it is a social experience. You are communicating to another person, be it via text or voice, and that is social.
