Societies next great evil?

With the passing of each generation or two comes the rise and fall of a great "evil" that is the root of all problems said generations face.

There's been free love, rock music. There was television then movies then the internet and pornography to name but a few. Now it is games that supposedly lie at the centre of my generations evils. The suposed rise in unsocialable youths is the result of to much time gaming as is obesity. Violent crime is caused by violence in games, failing grades and an uninspired youth is due to videogames and their drug like inducing addiction.

But it seems like more and more as with all the other "evils" before it the more widespread it becomes and the more people know about and experience it for themselves the thiner the veil of ignorance becomes and people see the light that actually its not really the cause of these things after all, something else is instead!! This seems to be just about to start happening now with games. So as gaming is teetering on the edge of acceptance what then i ask is going to succeed it as the next "big evil" for the next generation or our children??

Of course i hope that as it is us who grow to be the generation that defines these evils we will look back at this foolish pattern which has proceeded us and just except people are ultimately responsible for their own choices but i think that seems a bit to rational to be a likely possibility....

Republicans.

Oh wait...the news already makes all of America think we're are evil, over-zealous, religious assholes. With their heavy left-wing bias!

GRRR! ALL REPUBLICANS ARE GEORGE BUSH! GRRR!

Except Fox, with its stupidity bias. At least when it comes to games.

OT: Umm...Cotton Candy?

Or fat people. It's all our fault.

New kinds of recreational drugs, perhaps?

China?

The real enemy towards society is really society itself, but society will never acknowledge this.

Hmmm.. I'm going to have to go wiiiiiith.. Drugs!

Freddie Kruger!

In all seriousness, after games I assume legal drugs like Ritalin or contact sports like hockey are going to be the next targets.

The next great evil will no doubt be the first great evil. That evil is indifferance.

We fear what we dont understand and because of this, we identify our fears with a scapegoat. An entity that we can identify as the root to all our fears.

I can only hope that we scapegoat organised religion...but in reality I do not know. Could be a global idea...could be something more domestic. It really has to do with the media and what they present as the next great scapegoat.

If diplomacy falls short with a particular area like China, perhaps copt cat products will be the next great 'evil'. Not sure...follow the money...second place usually is the scapegoat.

Oh yeah... Him. Okay yeah, that would be the first thing I'd do. The second being, insult his mother and see how he responds.

Sorry, religion has already been scapegoated, dragged through the mud, they've burned the religious, they've pulled religious people's limbs off, they've target the religious in wars and gassed them... and if you read any of our religion and politics threads, they're STILL scapegoats. Even YOU scapegoat them.

Maybe if people just left it alone and focused on REAL problems other than defaulting to "I bet that guy was religious"... but that won't happen.

Not around here, anyway.
