Hello peeps,

Just read an article about six soldiers who will be punished for this:
http://www.zie.nl/video/algemeen/Soldaten-op-patrouille-doen-een-dansje/m1azx40f3qf9

Humor probably isn't very human or soldier like according to the military. I found this very harsh. What do you peope think about it? Is it right that they are punished for bringing the others in danger? Or is this just a joke that shouldn't be seen so harsh?

*Edit: soldiers are IDF (for steevee's info ;) )
* Edit to edit: I DO NOT want this to become a space for flame wars on politics. Please, leave them out of this. That is not what the topic is about.

Is this the article about the IDF soldiers?

If it is, then yes, I think they should be punished, at the very least it is an affront to Palestinians.

That is fucking hilarious.

It depends on what the punishment is, but you have to bear in mind two major factors:

Firstly they are carrying loaded weapons, and they are being careless with them effectively. They may not be waving them around with the safety off, but as professional soldiers, they have decorum to maintain.

Secondly as soldiers in uniform, armed and in public they have an image to uphold, a professional one and as representatives of their country.

The worst they should get is a verbal warning and maybe be taken on some harsh field exercise.

I think that yes, they should be punished in some way- maybe not harshly, but that was just stupid. It was also the single funniest thing I've seen all week.

Something tells me they got PT, extra duties, and docked pay at the least.

The epic amounts of boredom most Western soldiers go through is a pretty good source of lulz. Better they be doing something involving group cooperation and physical dexterity than say, throwing puppies off cliffs. That said, doing it while out and about is probably a bad idea.
I think the U.S. officially has the fiercest army.

Wow, that was actually pretty funny. It almost seemed fake.

Should they be punished? Probably.

Should it be harsh? Nah.

I can see why it's a problem. For the reasons stated above. However, I think every now and then, soldiers need to have some fun. I'm sure being in a war takes a huge mental toll on people. Things like this can prevent them from snapping and doing something harmful to their allies, themselves, or civilians.

This wasn't exactly the proper time or place to be doing this, but I don't see it as something they should be punished too harshly for.

I dont think they should have been punished. Its a good way to keep moral up. Unless it was on the front lines, Then thats just foolish.

6 armed soldiers on patrol means that clearly, someone in command believes the area to be dangerous. They wouldn't have a patrol like that if there was no danger of the soldiers being ambushed. If the soldiers didn't believe their commanders about the danger level, it's insubordination. If the soldiers knew there was a danger, but simply decided to ignore it, it's dangerous and not soldierly. Either way, they should be reprimanded.

Quite authentic, as far as I can tell. It is directly linked to one of our main news pages here in Holland.
