Solid DS titles?

I've had a DS for years now, but I hadn't honestly played it that much. I wanted to get a bit more out of it. I just recently bought the FF4 remake and as I still love JRPG's and the FF series, I liked this remake a lot.

A few months ago, I bought one of the new Pokemon games as a guilty pleasure. I do like the games. But once I finished it, I lost interest for a while. I might get back to in one day. Besides that, I have Super Mario DS/64.

Now I did like these three games a lot so I want to get more out of the DS. I have my shooting needs quelled on the 360, so that's out of the question.
I usually end up buying RPG's and such for my portables, so I know that I want to pick up the new Fire Emblem when it comes out.

So please, could you please recommend to me what you consider a worthy and solid DS game? Note that I sold my PSP due to lack of fun I got out of it. Thanks!

I'll back up the Iron Ninja on that one, Grimoire of the Rift is pretty damn sweet. And if you really like tactics games (which I do :p) both Advance Wars games are awesome.

I disagree with you.

Anyway, the DS library is remarkably solid. Here are a few of my favorites:

-Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
-Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (series)
-Professor Layton and the Curious Village
-Lost Magic
-The World Ends With You
-Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
-New Super Mario Bros.
-Kirby: Canvas Curse

... just to name a few.

I tried to play this but I really don't think the creators actually played the game before releasing it. Did they have testers?

It's got so many bugs and annoying little illnesses I ended up putting it down, again. It tries to be a great game but the overly basic artwork and AWFUL stylus controls let it down.

If they made a sequel and promised that they'd actually played the first one and fixed it, I'd give that a go. Some of my DS picks would be:

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (awesome time killers for a handheld)
Zelda: Phourglass
FF12: Revenant Wings (best RTS for DS imo)
FF3 (the remake is still worth it if you liked the FF4 remake.
(to name a few)

I'm really looking forward to the Chrono TRIGGER port for the DS! (edit: sorry, been playing CC recently)

**runs in a circle in excitement**

Seconded.

Apparently the handheld Spore is also looking good, though.

And I actually liked Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword and FF: Revenant Wings.

But that's my opinion.

I dunno what it was about The World Ends with You, but I couldn't get into it. I just didn't like it all around and it kept getting worse. Maybe I'm getting old...

I also disagree, but it's decent if you already absolutely love FF Tactics.

Most of the choice stuff has been said like Ninja Gaiden...but try Dementium: The Ward for a great FPS experience. And Mushroom Men is looking pretty fun when it hits in October.

A lot of what other folks have said in here is true I'll follow that with my list:

- Castlevania: DoS and PoR are both pretty good. *Very* similar to SotN, and we all know how great that was.
- N+, Contra 4, and New Super Mario Bros are great for platforming. Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble and Kirby Squeak Squad aren't bad.
- Metroid Prime: Hunters is great. Highly recommend.
- The Phoenix Writer series. Also Hotel Dusk. Both are basically point and click adventures and should not be missed.
- I liked Star Fox Command. It was like Star Fox 64 meets an RTS. Might be worth a try, but be warned that not everyone cared for it.
- Lastly, the Lego games. They're happy on a handheld, and it is where they belong. Especially when you get the WiFi multiplayer going.

Enjoy!

FF3 was really, really good. Grind like mad, but I liked it a lot when the grind wasn't making my eye twitch.

And agreeing that the New Super Mario Bros game was really good. There's also Hotel Dusk, which was an interesting game.

A good game that hasn't been translated but hopefully will soon is "Nanashi no geemu" (The Game With No Name), the horror game that Square Enix just put out. I haven't finished it yet because I haven't had time, but what I've played of it so far has scared me absolutely shitless.

I feel like we didn't even play the same game. I thought that the artwork was charming in its simplicity and that the stylus controls worked wonderfully. I don't know what "bugs" you're referring to-- I certainly don't recall encountering any.

-Once you'd selected units, there was NO way to deselect them
-Once you had confirmed where they were moving to/attacking, they became UNSELECTED so you had to select them AGAIN
-The unit selection was circular and pretty shoddy, missed some units
-The AI was absolutely abysmal. You'd have to guide EACH unit around a ravine or wall

That's all the crap I can remember for now. Been a couple of months since I last played it. The points I made don't seem so bad on their own, but imagine you're trying to quickly select something to attack and the circle "box" doesn't select all the units you want, you have to deselect them - oh wait, you can't do that. So you have to make them move anyway, THEN you have to select the units that were missed. If it were just one of the points I'd made, that'd be one thing. But they all domino into each other and made me dislike it's testers for not doing their job.

Okay, so the artwork wasn't terrible, but it was obviously intended for a GBA game headed straight to the bargain bin. Was like something off a Saturday morning kids show from the 80's or something (and not in a good way), like it had got to the storyboarding part and they couldn't be arsed to do other versions so they just "coloured 'em in", leaving it looking unfinished and half assed.

Like I said, I really did try with this game (3 times) and I would give a follow up a go if fixed said problems. I might put it in my DS again at some point, I might not.

If you're really handy with the stylist, i'll say Trauma Centre: Under the knife II

Get the Asian edition of Elite Beat Agents.
Got mine on Ebay very cheap, but do check the seller Feedback as DS games on Ebay are rife with pirate copies.
