Most snipers get killed while relocating, and even more get killed by staying still so they're not really a problem.

The exception to this is probably Bad Company 2 because the bushes and other greenery in that game are the best cover there is, they disguise your location and most often cover your muzzle fire.

Best way to take out a sniper is with a tank.

Tank beats everything, though, so there's a balance issue.

Well, no, missile pod and Spartan Laser destroy tank.

Then the sniper takes out the Spartan Laser easily.

There's nothing wrong with snipers. What is a problem is the player not countering them right.

(Halo was used as my example here, but if we're talking a more contemporary game, swap out "Spartan Laser" with "RPG" and the same logic still applies. If it doesn't have a tank, swap that out with stealth class, or grenade flushing.)

Good game for those who are annoyed by snipers

Transformers: War for Cybertron.

The way that game plays eliminates camping almost completely, and severely limits snipers. There are a few, but not many, and they're few because it doesn't work well.

Question about that game. Does its killstreaks include anything as game-breaking as the nuke from Modern Warfare 2? The potential of that when I saw the customizable killstreaks is the primary reason I'm not entirely sure I want the game.

Snipers are never a problem. Only people who whine about there being too many snipers. They're a big problem online.
QFT. What a dumb idea. I guess we should have a "noob-tube-free" playlist, and a "grenade-free" playlist, and a "shotgun-free" playlist too. I see those all the time, so they should probably be removed. Ya know, for balance purposes.

I will only be happy when we end up throwing rocks at each other, so long as the rocks are the same size, and it's on dedicated servers.
Oh, I like that. Shotgun free maps.

I'm constantly getting killed by shotguns. They come up behind me while I'm sniping and kill me in ONE SHOT!! Can you believe that bullshit?

Double post. In answer to your question, no. The killstreaks are largely useless.

You know, I reckon you could easily deal with snipers by throwing off their concentration, basically, annoy them as much as you can so they make rash decisions; then annoy them more by exploiting those mistakes.

or people can ball up and quit crying about getting shot in the head from 300 yards out.

Ok I have no problem with having too many snipers, it's an old rule of gaming and other things: if you hate too many snipers on the other team, remember that your team can have "too many snipers" as well. Don't get me wrong I hate the cheap deaths in TF2 because generally I won't see a Sniper until it shows the freezecam shot after they've killed me. Makes me go "Oooooh, that's where I was shot from." They're pretty good though, because they can kill most members of the opposing team with no damage taken.

I think the option would be nice. I just deal with it though. Who's to say that a sniper infestation couldn't be a real problem in a battle? I'd plow through for the sake of realism. I must defend my world of 1's and 0's from all enemies, not just the ones with automatic weapons!

Killstreaks aren't customisable, they're class specific. One class hits 7 kills and gets a player-guided supermissile that instakills anything in its blast radius, but I'm yet to see it kill more than 2 people at once. Another class gets to spawn a rocket launcher normally found as a turret weapon in single-player. Would be REALLY bad if they had the health to match its firepower. Other than that, most of the abilities are support ones.

Scouts have the most consistently useful 7-kill streak with a level-wide enemy-only EMP, that slows and blinds the other team. It also marks their locations for the killstreak player's whole team (which nullifies any advantage cloaking or disguise abilities give you and lets them keep a bead on you through walls). And makes them take extra damage while marked.

That would be nice... like the AWP-free servers on CS:S. But then again, sometimes there are levels, especially on BC2, where you need to snipe. What fun would it be if there were huge open areas and everyone only had assault rifles?

This is pretty stupid for a solution Thread Starter:

Basically for any online game that uses playlists, such as Call of Duty or Halo, there should be a few options for a 'sniper free' playlist. This removes all sniper weapons from the game.
For games such as Battlefield, the class option and items all stay, but you cannot use snipers.
Why would you totally remove a playstyle? Its there for a reason. Better solution would be to put a CAP on the total amount of snipers which has been done on servers in TF2 where the max amount of sniper per team is 1 or 2.

This is an idea I've passed around a few times and people have said they like it.

For games such as Battlefield, the class option and items all stay, but you cannot use snipers.

So what do you think? Could this work and if it was implemented would you use it?

EDIT: For peoples information... I'm not the one complaining about online snipers, this is a idea I give to people who do complain.

And the game most people complain to me about is Battlefield Bad Company 2.

So no elitism here thank you.
So you want to make -sniper servers like they have in counterstirke.

I don't think that is needed in BFBC2 as they tend to be fairly underpowered and don't have a lot of use. I guess some people get annoyed by them and I can see why, but games are balanced to have snipers, but if you didn't have them people would just shoot you at long range with an assault rifle or anti tank weapons anyway.
