Hey guys, I just need some help on one of my computers.
I'm not that tech savvy so be gentle.
Anyway I keep booting up my computer and I get to the part where it says "Windows Starting" or "Starting Windows" or whatever and it won't go past there. Before it kept trying to do disk checks that I would keep skipping because when the "Countdown" got to 1 it would just stop and not go on. And to top it off when I went on (actually being able to get to go on the internet) it would just slow down to a snails pace.
So can you help me discover what is wrong with my computer please?

Gah, I don't have much to go on, if you have another hard drive around, I'd put that in, make it master if needed, install windows on that, and then you can go into your old hard drive and rescue all the files you need.

With any luck someone else will have a better piece of advice tho. Really I'd ask around, maybe you've got a friend of a friend who can look it at it and sort it for you.

If it's an old PC, check your local freecycle for someone dumping an old pc that you can rescue the hard drive from (along with other bits), if it's fairly new, then maybe blow $50 and get a new drive for it, and just copy the old stuff across.

Once you've saved your data and tested the old drive, you can either dump it or use it as storage if there's no sign of impending doom.

I'm suggesting all this based on you not having any idea of why it's happened, you haven't dropped the PC, or left it open to viruses etc. (You run full, thorough virus n malware checks yea?

Doh, my bad, first move, as you have access to another PC, it's usually 'hold F8 while booting' that'll give you an option to boot into safe mode, but if that doesn't work google your pc name n model and 'safe mode', and that should help to start with. Without a second hard drive, maybe you can burn important stuff off to discs for now.
