Thou shall only use stealth if stealth is the only way to play.

Seriously, I have played games that had a stealth section or mission that truly threw me a curve. Red Faction Guerrilla comes to mind as a game with an unneeded and asinine stealth mission.

Actually, I do mind the DLC. I think it is robbing players of what should be rightfully theirs, considering the price of games today. I personally have never bought DLC. I can't even think of an expansion pack that qualifies among my best games of all time. The two episodes of Half-Life 2 maybe, but the thing is, those came in a big compilation of games (The Orange Box) so it's an altogether different matter.

Hm...I really agree with the difficulty balancing one. It's kinda sad when the one game I own which has what I would consider a really good difficulty curve, balanced to give anyone a good time while not scaring off its target audience, is a Pokemon knockoff I found in the bargain bin at Walmart.

Many companies have deadlines and they can't delay the release more and more. You can always put more stuff in a game. DLCs give devs the ability to focus mainly on the main part of the game until the release and then add more content afterwards.
Of course I'm only defending DLCs like "Lair of the Shadow Broker" from Mass Effect 2 for example. Good DLC which adds a lot of value to the game. Content which maybe wouldn't be possible to include at all without DLC.

OT: A very Nice list you made, here are mine:
Thou shall let me pause your cutscenes.
Thou shall let me use every button on my mouse, not only left, right and wheel button.
Thou shall let me save the game whenever I want.

Some more to add to the list:

Thou Shall Use Fewer Cutscenes

Please devs, stop with the fucking cutscenes. MGS, you're especially guilty of this. If you can't tell the story in-game properly, then at least make the cutscenes brief, not a fucking hour and a half, or at least make them interesting. Hideo Kojima, you could learn a get an editor.

Thou Shall Create Good AI

Maybe it's me, but when games from the past generation display better AI programming on both side of the coin, we have problems. I want teammates who can actually display some intelligence for a change. I want enemies who can actually put up a fight for a change. More importantly, I want escort AI that understands NOT to run headlong into the MG nests & try to stop bullets with the bridge of their nose.

Thou Shall Have Split-Screen Compatibility

Console devs, stop neglecting split screen just for more money or for online features. There still exist people who like to play split-screen for shits & giggles. Don't neglect something like that.
