I've recently fallen in love with the Hack n' Slash genre... well the Japanese version of hack n' slash, after playing Warriors Orochi 3. I've managed to get my hands on some more well-known titles. Like Pirate Warriors, Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Gundam Warriors, Bleach: Soul Resurrección, and Fist of the North Star. Now, I want more obscure titles. So I need help finding them.

I've found Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae on Steam and it looks pretty solid. Not as many bad-guys on screen as I would like, but looks more challenging. The cost is low enough that if a few people think it's good, I'll buy it. I've also heard the PS Vita has some solid titles on it as well. Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus looks like a game right up my alley.[footnote]Vita also has Persona and SAO: Hollow Fragment to interest me, not just one game.[/footnote]

So give me all ya' got, Escapist. Are the games I mentioned any good, is getting a Vita worth it, and do you have any I haven't listed? Suppose I should list my systems as well, PS3, PS4, 3DS, and PC. Oh and no Ninja Gaiden. I don't mind challenge, but I do mind getting my nuts continuously stomped on.

EDIT: Thought of a better suggestion - Dragon's Dogma. Hack-and-Slash JRPG. Despite its flaws, the combat is quite solid and there's a good variety of builds to go with. I'd suggest starting on easy mode though, 'cause otherwise it takes a billion hits to kill anything. Plus, you'll be able to survive without a team and thus won't have to hear their constant inane blabbering.

Devil May Cry 3 and 4, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising Revengance, all great character action games in the hack and slash genre.

In fact, just play anything and everything Platinum has put out, not all the games are hack and slashes but they're all really fun and interesting, and your skills will transition between them pretty well.

Since most people have already said a lot of the good ones, I'll go with the Drakengard series. Although only Drakengard 3 is on the PS3 IIRC.

If you enjoyed Samurai Warriors then you should definitely check out the Sengoku Basara series (specifically Samurai Heroes). It's basically Capcom's crazier take on the Sengoku period with similar combat mechanics to the Musou games but with a little more individuality to each character and some other key differences.
The first game is localised and is set during the earlier parts of period, during Nobunaga's campaigns, though it's apparently not that good.
The second is set during Hideyoshi's campaigns and apparently quite better but hasn't been localised.
The third, localised as Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, is your best option if you want a localised game. It's set after Hideyoshi's death and centred around the conflict between the East and West. Due to Capcom being Capcom, quite a few characters are unplayable, but they were added in the expansion pack...the expansion pack that was never localised.
The fourth game, which was released recently, is a 'what-if' story that has not been localised (and probably never will).

And I just ordered that game from Amazon. Looks like just what I was looking for. The fourth game looks awesome as well, pity it may never be localized. Do you know if their region-locked or anything? I could probably wing the Japanese edition.

Actually already own that game. Looked like blood, boobs, and dragons. Stuff right up my alley. I'll have to make that next on my play list.

@Everyone Else: For some moronic reason I had't even considered those titles. Kinda nice too that their all nice and cheap now. I'll add those to my buy list. Thanks for posting everyone.

The Vita is a pretty good system, especially for niche Japanese games.

I'd really recommend Senran Kagura, it's a really fun game, plus it has plenty of boobs and butts, also, if you happen to have any interest in Hyperdimenion Neptunia, there's a new game coming out by the developers of Senran Kagura called Hyperdimension Neptunia U.

No, you're good to go. SB4 does have some DLC (which you'll need a JP account to buy) but it's mostly cosmetic stuff and music, nothing important.

Just make sure you go into that game with the right mindset. The mindset of 'this game was created by a guy who enjoys to watch the suffering of others'. Have fun!

El Shaddai
Space Marine 40K is a 3rd person shooter / hack and slash hybrid with good game feel.
Brutal Legend is a mish mash of H/S sections RTS and other genres all thrown into one, 2nd half of the game isn't as anywhere as good as the 1st half
Anarchy Reigns is mostly MP based but does have a simple SP campaign that is worth the games cheap price. Combat is much simpler than most of Platinum's other games except maybe Legend of Korra

Moon Diver is a cool little hack-and-slash game with some elements of a beat 'em up thrown in.

You can pick from several different characters that have different abilities, and it can get pretty challenging as you go through the game. It's still pretty fun though.

Most Japanese titles have been mentioned. But how about western titles? I fell in love with Darksiders 2 in the first 10 minutes of gameplay. It's one of my favorite video games ever. Just look at this:

Really? Ninja Gaiden isn't even that hard(I have played it a bunch tho :p ). I think you are missing out. Play Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the ps3, it is another version of Ninja Gaiden for the xbox. I have only played NG Black, which itself was an upgrade on NG for the xbox. Sigma should be an upgrade on Black. But really it isn't that difficult, once you get used to izuna dropping everybody, and learning their attacks. And blocking and rolling. Very important.

If you mean to compare it to something like Dynasty Warriors, then yes, I guess it is difficult. But then most games are difficult when compared to Dynasty Warriors.
