Some Graphics card help?

So when I bought my rig (I know I know I was stupid back then) I originally had an ATI Radeon HD 3200. Last Christmas I was able to slightly upgrade to a 4550. The new card is supposed to have 512MB on it but just now as I was installing From Dust it said I had 241MB. While I was on Canyourunit? it said I had about 3 gigs. What the hell is going on here? Is there something wrong with the card? Do I only have 241MB? Is there some option I have to tweak or what?

It is possible your parts are not completely compatible, that could give you incorrect and varied readings of its size.
