I trust that free MMORPGs suck, and don't click on the ads. What do I prefer to look at? I like the Fiesta ad, not because of the chick, but because of the colours that run across her armour. I hate the Mabinogi ad. If I know I'll be working on my post for a while, I'll refresh the page so I don't have to look at the inhuman and freakish breasts on that little girl. I get it, guys like breasts, but isn't it better if they're more realistic?
My interest is better kept by something that's beautiful and well done. High production and aesthetic value, you know? I remembered liking the blindfolded chick on the Guild Wars Factions box so I googled it. She's pretty, but I'd be a lot more interested in the game if they had this (something I found at the bottom of the page) http://2black.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/crabfort.jpg on the cover. So I guess colour trumps hot people for me. Weird.
And cleverlymadeup I don't look at a guys package unless it's David Bowie in Labyrinth or some other circumstance where it's unavoidable.

Sex sells. There's a reason it's the world's oldest profession. People want it and can never get enough of it.

now seriously, it seems that every free game out there is an asian style MMORPG, and atleast half of those advertise scantily clad women, but lets turn the the best advertisements, the ones that treat us like total idiots. has anyone else seen the ad on the back of the newest PC Gamer -welcome to the gun show- ( thats where I saw this ad anyways) that advertised how it taught "life skills"? I almost pissed myself I was laughing so hard.

Sorry, I was going to write something sensible about this being no different from any other contemporary advertising with the idea that pitching a product to an audience is more about selling a lifestyle or something connected to the product as opposed to the product itself...
But the repeated use of the word "boobs" is just too much... I need to go and take care of some things...

Honestly, I barely notice it. When I'm browsing forums, I tend to focus on reading the posts or stare at people's funny avatars. Sure, I noticed the adds when the first popped up, but not after the 30th cycle rolled around. As for the breasts argument...what, they think I never go outside? Sex sells for those old enough to enjoy an MMO, but too young to go out and get a job to pay for one. The game companies like Nexon and whatnot making these games are trying to create a social network for pre-teens and the like. And let's face it, that's the kind of stuff that'll draw them in.
Personally, I find it admirable, even if I hate most of the types of people who buy into it.

Why does the Axe commercial sell? It involves both males and females: a guy to not only attract women with boyfriends to use it, but gay guys to use it as well. As for the woman in the ad, it makes straight guys think they can get women with it. Secretly, that ad is playing both sides.
The only reason ads for MMORPGs are usually of women dressed as less as possible, is because about 95% of the MMORPG players are straight men who get little to no sexual interaction at all. The other 5% of those players are either women who are taken, or men who are gay.
