I always wondered this, what is the difference between England, Britain, and UK? I mean what is the difference? or is there no difference at all?

Is the youth violence really as severe as some of the stuff I've been hearing about? I sometimes hear people saying they need to bring national service back.

England is where the English come from. I suggest you look at a map of the UK actually to find England, Wales, and Scotland. Britain is the island containing England, Wales and Scotland. The UK is the kingdom of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland politically melded together. (This is a severely condensed explanation of the differences)

I'm not qualified to commend on the youth violence part.

Well, I know England is one single country. The U.K I think is Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. Britain may be the same.
That's all I know, I'm afraid.
And violence can be pretty damn bad in the bad parts of cities.

Yes crime in the U.K. is statisically terrible, considering they are catagorised as a first class nation. It is mainly both youth n' gang violence. Apparently its to do with unemployement rates being somewhat low. The government is also part of the problem. Compare the U.K. to other western european countries, with umemployment n' crime rates etc.
Simpliest resolution is to adopt Socialism, yes I am socialist. Look at socialist countries they run perfectly fine, but I am heavily biast. Country that I'm refering to is Denmark. They Practically have one murder every year, or the murders are really clever.

...what have you been hearing about?

Gang culture is no where near as prevalent here as, say, Los Angeles - but in parts of London, Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester, the larger metropolitan areas, there is a danger.

That video (which I have no idea how to embed) explains all.

Edit: YAY! Thank you.

Youth violence is pretty bad. These days most of the idiots taking part in it all demand 'respect' from every single person they meet, and they feel everyone owes them something. Show them 'disrespect' in any form and they don't hesitate to beat you.

Dunno about you guys, but I don't respect idiots like that at all.

However, the statistics probably look far worse than it really is. There are some nice areas to live. From what I've seen the further you are from a city, the nicer a place is so live. 30/40 minutes distance via bus is a nice sweet spot for me. Not had any violence problems this far out.

England is the country that took over everybody else in the British isles. Britain I believe refers to the main island while the UK is all of their holdings. (northern ireland, the falklands etc)

The UK, I believe, has a higher violent crime rate than the US. Or maybe it's a higher general crime rate. i forget

OT: other than that, i have no idea about youth violence, maybe most of the criminals are young, maybe they aren't, I really don't know anything about violence, and more than enough answers have been givin about the UK

England is one of the three countries that makes up Britain.

Britain the single land mass that is comprised of England, Scotland and Wales.

The UK is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so it's Britain + Northern Ireland.

Not really... non-European former colonies have autonomy and are not included in the UK.

UK = United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland

Great Britain = the main island of the British Isles consisting of England (except the Isle of Man), Wales & Scotland

British Isles = former UK of Great Britain & Ireland, the sovereign Channel Islands & the Scottish Islands

yay a good explanation ^^

and to answer one of the early questions in the video, I do laugh at those who use the terms incorrectly.

As to the crime and youth violence thing, I live in London and see hardly any of it. Think gang culture being spread from America, but without the guns (Ok, very few guns) and generally on a smaller scale. Crime in general and Knife crime have been falling in recent years (2008-now at least). The gang related violence is nowhere near as prevalent as the tabloid media would have us believe (Read: scaremongering).

All in all, it's really not as bad as some seem to think, at least from what I've seen.
