I know it's supposed to be some fantastic anime/book series that everyone loves and any self respecting otaku (like me) has learned japanese specifically to be able to read all the light novels.

I have tried watching the anime. It doesn't make any sense to me. It seems a lot like Napoleon Dynamite in the sense that the characters do quirky things solely for the sake of being quirky.

So someone, please explain this phenomenon to me. I want to try to get into it, but I just can't.

It is a show about a strange teen girl (who happens to be obsessed with all things odd and interesting) who ropes a boy in her class that kind of likes her into joining her club. She also happens to be God, but she doesn't know it yet. What more needs to be explained? ;)

Not sure but:

Oh, and the order of episodes is messed up.
messed up and then there's the endless eight..... *shudder*

I've only watched the anime, but it is as mentioned above. She is god, and if she gets bored and tired of the world, it will end and be re-birthed as something entirely different and chaotic. So they have too keep her occupied, but not reveal supernatural stuff too her either or it will get even worse.

She can change reality for wishing for it hard enough, so Kyon and the people she has willed to exist must stop the destruction fo the current universe by preventing her from being bored.

It's better to watch it in broadcast order so it spaces out the "fun" episodes with the story ones. Also you might want to watch season 2 if you can get through "the endless eight". I've only seen the first season, but I will buy the seocnd once it comes out, and apparently the movie is actually suprisingly good.

It's slice of life with a bit of plot. That's really it. I personally enjoy the character of Kyon's reaction to everything, and the theory of Kyonism.

it´s not the beloved super anime every one loves, but it is a pretty good anime nonetheless.
A strange girl obsessed with paranormal things (time travelers, psychics, espers, etc) starts in a class. she is, to some extend, a God with the ability to make the things she believe in become real, and when she is bored, she will create interdimensional monster that threaten to destroy reality. because of this, her friends desperately tries to keep her happy.

it´s not the god-anime on levels like Naruto, Dragon Ball, Chin-Chan, etc, but it is entertaining if you like a kind of slapsticky humor.

Cool, I wasn't sure if I was right or not, I've never seen an episode (maybe I saw 1 once long ago) but I thought that's how a friend described it to me.
They re-aired Haruhi in 2009 and put the episodes in chronological order. They added 14 new episodes and new and old episodes were mixed together. To make it even better. ;)

What everyone said about the plot is true (I only watch a few episodes). I would like to point out that while the main male protagonist is a regualr human, he end up being roped up with an alien (still human looking), a time traveller and a esper (psychic) who are the one who got to keep Harushi entertained.

I loved it, I guess its just because I yearn to meet people as mad and interesting as that lot. I'd recommend watching the episodes in the order they were broadcast, ie jumbled up.

That way you can gain the knowledge of whats going on in order to watch The Disappearence of Haruhi Suzumiya
