So I am working at GameStop last night and a woman comes in a buys a copy of Madden 2012. So I give her the copy that is shrinkwrapped and tapped closed. The woman comes back an hour later with a copy of madden 2008 in it. Don't know if she was trying to get another free game out of it, or someone in shipping wanted to mess with people.

I highly doubt that she was telling the truth. Games aren't put into the cases by hand, it's a machine that does it, so I'd much more believe that she opened it to find a damaged disc rather than a completely different older video game. 99% sure that she's just trying to milk another copy from you for someone else.

So...how did the story end? Did she get money back or a free game? Did she get evicted from the store? WAS THERE GUNFIRE? I NEED TO KNOW!

I understand that working in a game shop sounds nice, but hopefully this will dampen your spirits.

Isn't there some serial number on the dvd so you can check somewhere when the dvd was made and sold or something like that? If not, there should be.

Well what happened was, she started calling left and right to the people she bought the game for. She started to yell at the boss, the boss asked if it was wrapped, he went crazy checking to see if the other copies were wrapped as well. The woman left the store over turning a display. It was hilarious

Hard to say. While the chances of it being a factory defect like that are probably rare (Madden 2008 not being in production any more, likely), I have been given defective CDs that were shrink-wrapped and factory sealed and all. I once bought a double CD and the second disk turned out to be video editing software, even though it had the proper label on it.

It is also important to note that GameStop will often open games and use them for demos and other purposes, before re-shrink-wrapping them again, so someone at the store might have buggered that one up. It probably would be that hard to do considering they all look alike.

This is why I'm trying to hold off working retail as long as possible.

Are you kidding me? Working retail gives you a great insiders view of how crazy the average person is.

I have got some stories of my own but that is for a different thread at a different time.

Heh, I actually had something similar happen when I was working for EB Games many years back. The game was sold sealed and wrapped, and the disk even had the proper stamping and art on it. I don't remember what game it was supposed to be, but it was a hockey game instead when you put it in the console.

For every great game that undersells, there must be several crummy games that oversell. It's called making your money back. Accept it as something that is going to happen. All those people who buy the games every year? They're helping keep the company's we love afloat.
But I wish for Ea to go under.
