Wait I always thought DB was Japan's version of like Marvel or Dark Horse, in that its a bunch of alternate timelines/universes, what-if scenarios, one-shots, continuity reboots and the like. Declaring any one plot thread 'canon' is missing the point.

No, Dragonball was just one long running story. It is full of plot holes, but it's because Toriyama never had an outline, and kept forgetting things he had done in past chapters. He actually created the Super Saiyan 3 form as Super Saiyan 2 because he forgot he'd already done 2, his editor had to correct him on that.

So what you're telling me is that the DBZ Abridged Goku is canon? I can live with that. Hell, DBZ Abridged is the only iteration I find enjoyable to watch.
