SO I'm cool with these hd collections and theres some I wanna buy but theres something I dont get, why do they all start in the ps2 era. Now I understand that some series started after the ps1 era but heres what I mean.
Silent Hill HD Collection Silent Hill 2 and 3 (wheres 1?)
and on a side note 4?
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Metal Gear Solid 2 Metel Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid...Peace Walker. (BTW why is there no portable ops either?)
Why do they refuse to remake the games that have god awful graphics but love remaking the ones that still hold up pretty good?

I think a true "collection" should have all the games in the series dont you?
It's like if you bought a Star Wars Collection and there was no episode IV.

They aren't "remaking" these games for the HD collections. They're just tweaking it to look better in HD. Easier to do with PS2 games than PS1 games.

And they aren't including the PS1 games because a.) there isn't much they can do with them and b.) because they're available for sale in the PSN store.

Maybe it's harder to port PS1 games or something? They have them on the PSN so I don't see why not, but who knows. I agree though, why not include the whole series. Especially if it doesn't include games that offer parts of the story, like the MGS collection.

Probably because a HD polish can make PS2 titles look decent, while no amount of polish will make a PS1 game look good.

HD Shadow of the Colossus looks great.

HD Final Fantasy 7 will still look like ass.

to all of you saying theres nothing you can do to make ps1 games look better, people were able to do that for free, so of course the devs could.

Pretty much this. You can polish a PS2 game to look good, but to make a PS1 game look good they have to pretty much redo all the assets and upgrade the game program itself to make better use of it without exploding. Also one of the ways old games could get so big was because they were so ugly.

We'll never see an FF7 remake without some serious content cuts because a full-HD remake with the open world and all the side areas would be gargantuan, both in disc size (it would probably need more than one disc) and in the amount assets Square would have to redo.

What I find REALLY strange about the Metal Gear remake is the fact that the first MGS WAS remade with updated graphics for the gamecube, why didn't they just include that one? Very peculiar.

They aren't completely remaking the games on a new engine most of the time, they're just up-scaling the graphics.

This is easier to do with PS2 games than PS1 games since a PS1 game up-scaled would still look like utter garbage today.

Regarding a few things you mentioned.

- No Silent Hill 1 or MGS1 HD`s.

These are available in the PSN Store already.

- No Silent Hill 4 HD

SH4 is seen as the downpoint of the SH series, it doesn`t help the fact that SH4 wasn`t originally intended to be a Silent Hill title. You hear a lot of jokes about SH4 too, from the design choice of the repeating levels, burping enemies, and the new inventory system that just annoyed everyone. Though it`s my 3rd fav SH, I`m not entirely surprised they chose not to include it. That would be a lot of extra work put just for people new to the franchise to sit back and say "Wut? What is this? This is nothing like the other two."

- No Portable Ops HD

If you've played it, you'd understand. MGS-PO was a pretty good game, just not a good MGS game. It was extremely short, the entire game may as well be VR Missions done in a world setting. The capture/recruit system played an extremely small part in the real game and was mainly for the multiplayer. I have MGS-PO and Peace Walker, and I bought the HD collection too.. And you know what? I'm really glad I don't have to go through MGS-PO again, it would only bring the collection down a notch.

MGS: Twin Snakes was an exclusive, that's why we didn't get a HD remake. Quite frankly, I thought twin snakes was a bit of a joke. A little too over the top. I know Snake is a super soldier and all, but come on, baseball pitching a grenade down the barrel of a Tank? Backflipping over missile and then kicking it's tail to spin around in the opposite direction? Liquid having a conversation while casually walking on a hand rail doing front flips?... No.. That's not MGS man. That's just stupid.
