no one has ever quoted anything not related to their original post past page one. if you look through the replies to a forum post, most of the quotes are either from page 1 or in response to a quote from page 1... nobody ever reads all however many pages of comments there are so chances are if you weren't one of the first responders no one read your post =/

Yeah.

Forums are about getting heard, and people don't have the attention spans for more than 20 people at a time.

People do read through more than just the first page; the OP normally does,or should, at least.

All posting on the first page does is makes it more likely that your post will be seen and read by others. Other than that, there's no guarantee that people won't read it.

Yeah, that is a downside.

Though if you have a huge flashing image in your post everyone will at least glance over it. So there are ways to solve it

That and most people don't even post unless they think they can get on page one.
I'm fine with posting in a topic if I actually have something to say. I usually require a certain level of pertinence to post, and that is that regardless of what page I'm on. But I can see why people might not bother if they can't assuredly be heard.

If the thread is interesting enough and the post are too I will read through it all. I'll admit I do glance over alot of stuff, or if the thread is already 17 pages in then it just to time comsuming to read through it all.

I try to read most of the thread before I post in it, but I admit that sometimes I don't have the patience to read through all the pages. The problem is I expect to come to the Escapist and read a few things, post some comments and continue browsing other sites or playing a game. I don't usually want to sit down and read a conversation.

Hmm my view is that if it has more than 3 pages, it's not worth commenting on... usually anyway.
