Sometimes I'll delete the same chat response 10 or 20 times.

Nothing wrong with VLC player, it has handled everything I've thrown at it.
And even file extensions it says it doesn't know about it will still try and play anyway, sometimes perfectly. It's the best backup player possible.

OHHHHH, someones got their browser in a twist!

You could always try NetScape, I kid, when did you try Opera?, the latest release is excellent, although I prefer minimalist style fast browsing.

I admit that for a few years it was shit, and I was using Chrome, but its definately the fastest browser.

But if you like features and stuff then stick to Firefox.

Neither Chrome nor Opera has a proper Adblock add-on yet, so until there is one I think its perfectly justifiable to stick with Firefox. Indeed, since Chrome is made by Google and they make tonnes of money off of ads, I don't think there will be such an add-on ever.

That said, both Chrome and Opera are probably functionally and performance-wise better than Firefox. Ad-block is a huge deal though. Oh wait, OP doesn't have ad-block. ok....

So wait, what is everyone using rather than VLC?

I'm not bothered by adverts, in fact I randomly click adverts on sites I like because it makes me feel like I'm helping in a small way.

I use Windows Media Player, you can download it off the Microsoft website, its in the support and downloads section.

HA!
Sorry, I use Shareazaa for my player, its got a funky little mixing function to blend tracks into one another, its like being in a club but without the thugs trying to beat you up.

apparently, Shareazaa is a P2P application....?

Media Player Classic Home Cinema is what you should be using.

I've also has a good experience with KMPlayer.

Also firefox still wins because of its addons, and with multiple tabs open its performance and memory usage dwarfs all the other browsers. Chrome, ironically, did not fare well when loaded with many tabs and i think was using about 3x the memory despite being faster in every other aspect.

That said, its not that great a compliment when a browser's main sellingusing point are add-ons made by volunteers.
Thanks for the player tips, will go ahead and take a look but on the other hand VLC does everything. And firefox is great :)
