So, the word overrated is thrown around A LOT these days, and something I've noticed is that overrated games seem to very quickly become underrated and yet is still thought of as being overrated by those who hate it.

Think about it. A game comes out, Halo is a good example so we'll go with that. Halo came out, year 2000, its INSANELY popular, people bought an Xbox to play Halo, it sold a console, as time went on, it becomes overrated, people are calling it the best game ever etc. Eventually some prick decides he wont shut up about how halo "sucks" and "is overrated" and a whole lot of other pricks follow him to the promised land of pricktopia. So, now we come to the point where the game is no longer overrated, in fact, it's underrated, every prick who ever watched ZP or went on youtube or got told halo sucks by his prick friend now hates Halo, so, why do people still call it overrated? It's confusing to the point of being infuriating.

So, we're all gamers here, I can't be the only one who's thinking this. What do you think? Disagree with me? Not on Halo, Halo was just a convenient one to make an example of, there are tons of others: Call of Duty, FFVII, Gears of War etc. Is there a ame that you think used to be overrated, but is not getting too much hate, post here.

Your example, Halo, is overrated. If I'm a prick for thinking that then I'd rather be a prick for having an opinion. But there's a difference between 'popular' and 'overrated'. Call of Duty multiplayer is popular, nor overrated, as is Halo's, but both of their stories are definately overrated.

Because Halo 3/ODST/Reach really is overrated or at least marketed to the point where one can think there's no other shooters but Halo around (except CoD). Its plot is laughable, gunplay is quite average, level design - simplistic and weak. Good points are music (awesome), AI and live-action trailers. It's really an average shooter with an average multiplayer. No matter how I don't like Call Of Duty's MP it's still better than Halo's.

At the time of first Halo there wasn't anything like it on a console (any console), but now we have a lot of better competitors and still critics praise Reach, people talk about the release and it's a bestseller. Overrated, isn't it?

If truth is told too many times it doesn't cease to be such.
