OK Escapist, I really think there is something wrong with my electrics, particularly the electricsin the attic. As us Brits may know, it's long been that time of year where it's getting terribly dark by the time you get home from school/college/work etc. So obviously a light on in the attic, light creeping out of the edges of the door would stick out like a sore thumb to me whilst walking up the stairs, as the attic door is just above the top of the stairs.

So I got home from college and I definitely know the light in the attic was turned off (I'm the tiniest bit OCD like that). My brother and I play some L4D on the Xbox for a few minutes, before I go down to get some food. On my way back up, I notice the light is on in the attic. I climb up and check it out. The switch has been flipped and the light is on. Now I know there are no pests in my house, and it couldn't have been my brother as the hinges on the retractable metal ladder are so rusty that the slightest movement makes a creak that can be heard throughout the house.

The last time we opened up the attic was on 1st December and I think being the OCD freak that I am I would have instantly notice the light left on,let alone over a month and 3 days.

So naturally, I considered the possibility with the mosrt sense: the electrics in my house must really need seeing to. I mean, I don't really know if a switch actually being physically flipped due to electrics is entirely unheard of.

So, has anyone else had something like this and is it worth calling an electrician?

Maybe your brother went into get something and forgot about it afterwards.

Or you know..ghosts!.

On a serious note, electrical faults usually don't flip switches. I can understand if the light is still on when the switch is in the "off" position that it can be an electrical fault but if the light only comes on when the switch is in the "on" position and goes off when in the "off" position, then it can't be an electrical fault.

If the switch is physically in the "on" position despite you switching it off then a physical force had to have changed it; like a human hand. [sub]or a ghostly one[/sub]

If there was an electrical fault that can cause a switch to jump positions (I have never heard of such a thing to happen before) then it would have to be a massive power surge..in which case the fuse would have blown and the light wouldn't have been on.

So what you have in the attic is not an electrical fault but a ghost.

Place a video camera, apply talcum powder on the floor and call the mumping Ghost Busters.

Ghosts.
That's the answer.

Set up a camera on that switch or preferably the whole room.
The ghost will either give up. Or reveal itself.
Proving once and for all.
Ghost pirates are serious business.
