Just picked one up and I was wondering if, Resi aside, there's survival horror going on? I guess it's kind of a long shot, but is there anything on WiiWare or the Virtual Console? I hear there's some interesting stuff on the horizon (Sadness, and that Mt. Everest thing), but I'd really like to get my teeth into something this side of Christmas...

Could you class House of the Dead as survival horror, I mean, if you survive the acting, you're REALLY tolerant.

do yourself a favor and go track down a copy of the Gamecube game Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem... yeah, it's a last gen game, but i think it was the best survival/horror title to ever be released on any nintendo console... i liked it better than RE4....

Oh yeah, I heard about that mountain game, I think it was called Cursed Mountain. Don't you play as a tourist?

Hah, yeah, House of The Dead's a pretty scary prospect.

I remember hearing really good things about Eternal Darkness. Cheers, I'll look into grabbing a copy.

Yeah, I think your best bet is going to be to find a scary Gamecube game for the Wii.

Eternal Drakness actually did scare the bejezus out of me in some parts... some of the imagery is really disturbing...

You know, if they make a scary game for the Wii it would be great! Being distracted by fear would throw off your accuracy and such.

i just realized why Eternal Darkness would actually be scarier on the Wii than the Gamecube:

the game likes to play tricks on you, like telling you that your controller is unplugged or that someone is using a remote to mute your TV volume, etc... one of the nastier tricks is conjuring a bogus "blue screen of death"... just imagine how much more frightening it would be to think that your precious Wii has gone tits-up, RRoD style?

Cursed Mountain, yeah. I think you're a mountaineer, looking for your mountaineer brother who disappears in the Himalayas. It looks really, really, good.

Awesome Game Alert!

I adored that game, and all its sequels. I think the terrible acting just made it more endearing.

I don't think I will ever understand the horror fans' love for terrible acting.

I think it derives from the horror film genre, and the fact that fans of that had to live with the warts of their own fandom, one of which was generally poor acting.

Nice name, man.

I am thinking about tracking that game down...it sounds fun to play a game in which my character can go insane.

It's a case of so bad it's hilarious. Sure, it completely kills the horrific mood, but in its unrealistic acting given the situation there's something funny about it.

EDIT: And while I've never played Eternal Darkness, I've always wanted to, and if it is as faithfully based on Lovecraftian horror as it seems to be you're in for a treat.

There's Obscure: The Aftermath on Wii - which is, well, obscure.

Track down a copy of Eternal Darkness if you can.

ah, always a pleasure to meet another lovecraft fan...

eternal darkness was certainly heavily influenced by lovecraft, but was not an official cthulhu mythos game....

good luck finding a copy at a reasonable price... i still have mine, boxed up and stored away with my gamecube, but i recently saw one for sale at a used book store for $130! it's something of a collectors item now...

I had a good friend lend me eternal darkness, it really is very good. To be honest it really gets to me when I play it alone at night there is a real feeling of tension...

If you have a PC and like your Lovecraft might I reccomend Dark Corners of the Earth, a great Lovecraft inspired FPF(First person Flee'er)
