Something that baffles me...

How is it that sites such as: thepiratebay,minova and torrenttracter are running even though they have an illegal nature? And sites that illegally stream movies...how is it that even though I am fairly sure that people in the government are aware of these sites, nothing is being done to act upon them and thus help to PERHAPS decrease piracy.

Just as a point no I do not use any of the aforementioned sites I just happen to be aware of them, I buy all of my games/movies/music legitimately

Most of those sites are hosted in different countries. Legal complications prevent any action from being taken.

I think the gist of it is that they are only responsible for the hosting/distribution of the torrent files, not the pirated content itself. It's a little loophole that means they aren't legally accountable, the individuals who upload the torrents are.

At least, I think that's how it is. Not 100% sure, but that's what I heard.

TPB is Swedish. But I'm not sure why they haven't been. I know TPB tried to by Sealand, but failed.

Isohunt now, since mininova lost pretty much everything from what I've heard.

Also, the government sometimes sets trackers but they look for the seeders mostly.

The Pirate Bay, at least, is based out of a different country so that kinda fucks the legal system. That, and .torrent files are not illegal to host. The people posting the torrents and hosting the content are the ones breaking the law. Go to www.thepiratebay.org and click Legal Threats down at the bottom. This will hopefully help you to understand some of the issues preventing swift justice.

International laws are tricky.
When you download a movie, you're doing something illegal. (assuming you're American or similar)
When I download a movie, I'm not doing something Illegal, because I'm dutch and Dutch law says that I can download this stuff for personal use.

I can't upload, sell, or distribute it, but I can download.

The problem is that the companies have their own rules and still have the right to sue you because being in a country that supports terrorism for instance does not make it right or acceptable or immune to rules.

Being in a country that legalizes the downloading of pirated materials does not make you immune to it.

Honestly if they wanted they could sue you for all you're worth and they'd win, even if their case was hollow, they'd still win because they have lawyers by the plane.

BUT

You're not worth their time, and PRAY that you stay that way.

Well, I may be one of the only people to notice this, but not only is there an issue with obvious piracy, but also an issue with people who can't use the right words...
