So, today, I went to my local gamestop, to pick up the copy of Prototype I had preordered, came home popped it into my 360, and sat back to prepare for some mutant carnage. I clicked the new game button, and it takes me to the loading screen. After several seconds of anticipation, the xbox 360 guide comes up and says "Could not read disc". Well fuck, I think to myself, lets try it again. I did. 5 times. I cleaned the disc, unplugged all of my xbox chords, and removed my hardrive. Surely, this will work. No. It didn't. Everytime, at the exact same moment, I get the same error. My 360 still runs all of my other games, though, so it isn't the 360, Apparently, of the thousands upon thousands of copys of Prototype, I got one of the several hundred bad ones. Fuck.

My disc drive has been hating me lately too. anyone know what it might be? I heard a lot of disc drives on 360's have been breaking recently.

Wow... that does suck. Can't offer any constructive advice, since I don't own the system. Have you cleaned the drive out as well?

I wonder if this is more of an isolated problem. Would suck if there were many copies of it corrupted.

Could be worse. At least your toaster isn't trying to kill you. Then you should hate technology.

Soon, my friend....soon...

I got a dodgy Assassin's Creed disk for the PS3 which was a real kick in the teeth because it was the last one at the store so I had to wait a good week until they got more in.

to be fair, it would be massively spooky if that was the manufacture number of your disc :p
also that's a pretty shitty thing to happen. reminds me of the time I bought a game that ended up having French as the only language on it I could understand vaguely... but for £7.99 i really could not be arsed to return it.

It's an issue with the 360 something to do with the laser or something, I don't know in detail, but it happened to mine before it RROD.

Don't rule out a possible flaw with the disc. When I bought Quake 4 for the PC, it continuously hung up during the install on the third disc. I took it back, got another copy and had no trouble installing.

I can't think of a place that wouldn't let you do a straight-up exchange. Except maybe Gamestop, but that's because they suck.

Just take it back and exchange it, If there is nothing physically wrong with it they will probably let you. Also, this happend to me with Fallout 3, I know this because I tried it in someone elses 360 to no avail.
