I can't take it anymore. I know it's not real, it's in my head, but that doesn't change the facts- every time I listen Dashboard by Modest Mouse, I reach that point towards the last 30 or so seconds of the song I hear something I know can't be there. I don't really know what it's supposed to be, since my only knowledge is what I know can't exist. As best as I can guess, the song is supposed to have a point where you hear [sup]aaa[/sup]aaAAAH but every time I hear it it comes out as ste-FAN. This is my name. My name is in the song, but I know it isn't. I can't stop hearing it. Dashboard came on my Pandora station a few minutes ago, and I decided to sit and listen to it. "Surely if I know it's coming, I won't hear it. Certainly not. If just sit and think about not hearing it it won- GORRAMMIT HOW IS IT THERE?" I know I'm making a big deal out of nothing (something that can't possibly exist,) but it promotes a Pavlovian response in me. I have to turn my head to see who's calling my name.

To help you imagine what it's like, think of listening to Navi. Leave her on a loop [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duRO3noyAKU]. Now keep listening until here words don't mean anything anymore. Until they are no longer words, but simple noise. Now these simple noises form new noises, ones you know don't exist but persist regardless of reality. Now these sounds, in a semblance of coherence, begin to morph into something even more terrible: your name.

Do all of that in about half a second. Do often. Do it until you scream.

You are having what we call a schitzophrenic episode. Maybe.

But it's EVERY gorram time.
Then you're having what we call, in the psychological community, lots of schitzophrenic episodes.

Listening to the song now. Will edit if I hear Stefan. I thinking he's saying Standing its about 21 seconds from the end. If your hearing anything remotely close to your name I think its when he says:
"We've yet to crash, but we still might as well tow it
Standing at a light switch to each east and west horizon"

I linked that Navi video to every single one of my friends. I don't believe I will be alive much longer after their reactions. Best video ever!!!

That's all I ever hear when Navi speaks. A noise which bores into the deepest parts of my mind and make me want to do bad things.

On topic: You could always just skip the last bit of the song when you hear it.

I dunno, things can get in on tracks. I forgot the song, but in one the band edited the radio edition to cut out the scream of a woman being killed in the alley behind the recording studio. It could also be your imagination: I listened to Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy (A pre-point-and-laugh Shut the fuck up, please) once in my younger years, and I hear my mother talking in the background. There is something, but I doubt a 45 year old woman would have been taken to the recording studio just to freak me out.

This thread is even more "Wtf?" worthy than the one about the dead dog.

Hang on, we're talking about listening to songs until you hear your name in them? I'd say that's either A) your brain seeking patterns that do not exist or B) drugs.

Good God, how did you know it was my mother's voice. I'm not joking it's my mother saying my name.

Unless... no...

It happened the first time I listened to the song, and I was stone sober (as with subsequent listening.)

My mom is the same age as yours, we hear our mother in songs...
No, I wasn't going to say we're related, I was going to say we're the same person. Your father wouldn't have happened to leave at a young age and still offers you guidance, would he?

I have no idea what to tell you. I can sometimes here my mom saying "Mom" like she is greeting my grandmother in one song.

All I got out of the Navi video was "Pay, Glisten"

This sorta reminds me of the song everlong
during the Bridge, you can hear a strange mumbling noise that sound like Dave Grohl saying something
