What songs/albums/artists do you listen to that other people despise? Maybe they're not exactly mainstream, or they're quirky, or you recognise that they're actually bad on a technical level? Post your songs and give a description of why no one likes them but you?

Album: Protomen
Band: Protomen

A futuristic, dystopian, spaghetti western rock opera based on the story of Megaman. When my room mate heard the concept he asked, "and you paid for this with money?" I get similar reactions from everyone else. I only blast it on my speakers when I'm alone.

Band: They Might Be Giants

Four words: John Linnell's nose singing. Love the wacky subject matter and obscufated storytelling, but this is the band that makes people question my musical taste. I think you need to let the lyrics grow on you.

Band: Honest Bob and The Factory-to-Dealer Incentives

To be fair, I probably like their music just because of their name.

Band: Jim's Big Ego

I don't understand how someone can like the Barenaked Ladies and hate Jim's Big Ego.

The Beatles.

Dammit, everybody else loves them.

Well, I like Bowling For Soup, even though I know that their music is incredibly simple. Their music is just so upbeat and amusing...

Agoraphobic Nosebleed (a grindcore band). My metal friends complain that they do not like the vocals, when it is probably the most energetic music ever created.

Everything I listen to is hated by my friends. The Pussycat Dolls, Leona Lewis, Flo-Rida, Rihanna, and songs like Sexy Can I, Feedback, Beep. They can't stand it. They call me gay when they clearly don't realize just how hot most of them girls are.

metal, my favorite genre (hard rock like Aerosmith and GNR is a close second.) every1 else listens to shitty pop, crappy techno and stinking rap. except my friends Magnus and Lucas (lucas hears viking metal and magnus hears Genesis and Phil collins).

Didn't you hear? Real men never listen to girls. [/Tongue-in-cheek]

I'd say Cake, nobody seems to know them well, or Atmosphere. (whom I've yet to find somebody who knows them at my school)

I have Cake's discography. Depends where you live really, the closer to Sacramento the more people you'll find that like them

"I'm Just a Kid" by Simple Plan. That song never fails to lift my spirits, but no one else sees it.

I remember on one of their album covers (The one with 100 songs in under 20 minutes) there was a warning about listening to it on car speakers.

I love that song. "And the man in the back said everyone attack and it turned into a ballroom blitz."

I also like Greenskeepers, but no one else does.

Ha, I remember that. Get the newest disc if you haven't -- grindcore gold I say.

several of my friends like atmosphere. Its ok by me, not really my kind of music though. Is it a college thing? I don't know...

OT I really like Arcade Fire. I think the song Wake Up is kinda like the theme song to my life, no one else has shared the sentiment. I find that strange.

I quite like The Red Paintings, but I can't say as to whether or not other people like them as I don't really pay attention to other peoples likes and dislikes.

I've never had to let their lyrics "grow" on me. I liked them the first times I had listened to them, and I still do. I just don't listen to them much anymore...

I dunno, I really like bands people have heard of but only know a couple songs by (ie: NIN), but I end up really preferring their songs that no one's heard.

Like with Nirvana, my favorite song by them is probably Sappy. No one's favorite song by them is Sappy. If I take it at face value, it's such a mediocre song, but it has many elements that make it more interesting than most of their songs. And the lyrical metaphor is pretty sweet.

With NIN, my favorites jump back and forth because they vary so much, but all anyone ever listens to by them is Closer, Hand That Feeds, or Every Day Is Exactly The Same.

And none of them are my favorite. Something like "Last" or "The Big Come Down" are much closer.

But uhhh...As for songs people seriously "don't like" that I love? I really can't think of any.

I guess people really don't like Dragonforce, when I like them because of their ironic/sarcastic statement about metal today (at least I HOPE they're a joke band, because they sure pull it off quite well), Heroes Of Our Time is a pretty nice song.

Ah, man. Dragonforce. I just love the cheesy lyrics.

You might like Honest Bob's cover of Head Like a Hole.
