Ah, I misunderstood that at first (cheap = crap).
Anyway, whether I buy it or not depends on the quality of games released on it - and I haven't heard of many besides the remakes and Kingdom Hearts 3DS.
Same here. I thought it meant cheap in a bad way not a good one.
But I am hoping for good things in this new DS.

"$600 is too cheap" - Ken Kutaragi [speaking about the price of the PlayStation 3 prior to launch]

The 3DS will have a huge launch regardless of how much it costs because there will be a big pool of people that will buy it at whatever cost they release it at. However, if it is released at more than $200.00 I can't see it really taking off until they drop the price to something more reasonable.

yep, misleading title that isn't echoed in the article. Fair price and cheap are not the same thing and it makes it sound like Sega were bashing the 3DS (that or yuji naka has too many pennies).

Sega just needs to revive itself as a company and get back into the field of console-crafting. Aside from the 64-era, Nintendo has always been dead to me! I miss the Dreamcast :(

Dropping over $200 is not an easy decision for most people, ya know, with the economy and being broke and stuff. A console, I have NO problem with paying that large ammount of money, cause I know it will get that moneys worth of play time out of it.

A hand held. Err. Dont get me wrong, I love my DS, and play it to death, but even Im having a hard time justifying the 3DS for its price. 3D doesnt interest me, in the slightest. I find that usually the better the graphics get (over time), the worse games get. Stuffing "the next big thing" in front of my face when I still scoff at people who buy HD TV's isnt the way to move a product.

... on the flip side, OoT... You koi bastards...

Kinda reminds me of the Play Station 3.

Sure you were getting a deal with the built-in Blu-Ray player. But the problem was gamers wanted... well, a GAME console, not a Blu-Ray player. Wich is something that seems to be happening here. Nintendo spent money on 3D and expect us to accept that they want alot of money for tossing something in, that gamers didn't need and probably didn't want.

I don't really understand the 3DS are games coming out only for it and no other DS or something?

The 3DS is not another upgrade. It is a sequel.

ie, Gameboy Advance to Nintendo DS.
PS2 - PS3
Xbox to 360
Gamecube to Wii

So, yeah. The old DS will enebidbly die out like the GBA did when the DS was released.
Slowly but surely, all you'll see on shelves are 3DS games(if it's a success, 'cause look how PS3 really put the PS2 out)

This is the next model. Not a slight upgrade, but an entirely new console with new games that the DS can't play.

My DSLite is on it's last legs, the hinges are cracked from overuse and there's quite a few rows of busted pixels. There are a couple of games said to be on the release schedule I'm quite interested in, so this is what I'll be getting when old faithful bites the dust! If it lasts longer than a few year, I may be able to snag a price drop too! (I'f I'm very lucky of course!)
