I think Sony's doing 3D gaming right, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna get a 3DTV...

Hrrrm...perhaps that's it. I always found watching films on a High End System to be rather obnoxious, even in HD it feels like you're being thrust into it rather than being an observer. Perhaps that's the problem with 3D as well? I don't want to be "part of it", I'd rather watch.

Seriously lets take a step back, no even more step, right this is your media [be it games, movies or other entertainment] in 3d. Has 3d really added anything special?

I mean not every 3d movie is avatar right. I am not against the use of new methods to emerge us but yeah it can become an utter waste. Adding a new "emerging" method to a type of media only really works if it aids us. It if helps us.

So for 3d games I will say the same as to 3d movies. It better be worth the money you spend in doing it...

That really is also my trouble with it. They use 3d these days to take old movies and franchises and be like "Hey look new fresh 3d" .. seriously. Money and Time spend into 3d is not time and money spend doing things that might make the experience better.

3d done well? Sure I get it it adds something. But 3d can fall flat and then.. the money spend in it is worthless.

Not every movie is avatar remember that.

I felt that Killzone 3 worked better without the 3D glasses personally. They just blurred everything and it didn't look as crisp.

I think 3D takes away from immersion. First off you lose between 30% and 60% of your pixel resolution to create the effect, that means no 3D game/movie show at home is ever going to be in HD. Then they do stupid tricks to make the 3D stand out so you realize it 3D and your more focused on that then the actual product your suppose to be immersed in, and finally all the other problems of 3D, the glasses, the headaches, the eye strain.

Don't care, and the only thing that I will care about is if they manage to get 3D as an integral part of every game/movie. At that point I'll get really pissed, 3D does not and never will (barring massive eye surgery) work for me.

Stop trying to force this shit Sony, it has never worked, and there are plenty of people who could tell you why.

Pfff 3D a thing in the past now a days take a look at some of these movies coming out in 4D! Gimmicks will always be gimmicks. They did this way back when and then it died off and now just trying to revive a dead gimmick. To me it breaks any type of immersion because all they care about is shit popping out at you. Woah shit check out this bullet that is totally coming out the screen, isn't that awesome kids!?!?! Hasbro's best thing evar! Kids, hey kids, ahhhhhhhhhhh it's so awesome!

What would this other gimmick be? I'm not being sarcastic or anything I really don't know what you are talking about.
My guess is that he's talking about move.
Or auto regen health?, or thousands of cutscenes?, or mind nubingly linearity?. There's lots of gimmicks in today's shooters, not just Move.

OT: I'd say that Sony and Microsoft should drop the 3D bullshit already, both of their consoles can't simply pull it off without taking a hit in resolution and framerate. I'd say that they should try again with their next gen of consoles, you know, freaking machines that are not 6 years old.

So no 3d this hardware generation. You know I can agree with that! It probably is to early to actually make it work well. But you cry out the 3ds.. I am not going to talk about that console.

Sony...we just don't care about 3D. Get over it. Nintendo is learning that lesson way faster than you, if rumors are true of them "rebranding" and moving the focus of the 3DS away from 3D.

*Ponders if he meant first "person" shooters?* In that case, I didn't know being boring was a gimmick, but it's sure in most every game.

This is the third or fourth time since the invention of 3D that it's reared its ugly, expensive head. About 90% of the movies that come out in 3D... or 4D *eyeroll* are awful. Not only are they bad movies in their own right, but the 3D effect is just ugly. It muddies the movie. I'm not gonna make any claims about immersion, but I have yet to see a movie in 3D that I was thrilled that I saw it in 3D, in most cases I walked out wishing I had seen it in 2D and spared myself the headache and extra money. Likewise I have yet to see a movie in 2D that I felt like I was truly missing out.

With games, with the tech this generation has, it's just not gonna work. Very few genres actually benefit for being in 3D, FPSs probably being the only one. The fun of 3D is having stuff fly at YOU, the viewer, and not many games can give you that without it feeling really out of place and obscuring the game.

Killzone was a good test for the idea in a genre that's appropriate for it and even then it didn't leave the fans clamoring for more. Mark my words though, Uncharted is going to be the game that demonstrates how silly the idea is for the larger consoles. The 3DS has already been kind enough to show us how bad the idea is for the handheld market.

You can have all the quality you want. Me? I'm more interested in variety, and that tends to be... restrained among the big boys.

Though I still won't give a damn about 3d.

Ive never liked 3d.
Its always been hideous, and never done right.
The only two 3d movies ive ever liked were "My Bloody Valentine" and "Coraline", because theyre two of the only movies to do it well.

And 3d video games? That doesnt even sound good to me. I dont need tomahawks coming out of the screen at me every 10 seconds, nor a crossbow bolt sticking out of my face. It wouldnt have to be "really good".
It would literally have to be Perfect for me to even want to try it. And the threat of constant headaches and eye strains would still turn me off.

3d is a bit of a gimmick. And theres a good chance it will die out again in the next few years. ((Like it did the first time it came out))

Really depends on the subject matter at hand...if I watch an over-the-top, Michael Bay-explosions action flick, then, sure, I can definitely tolerate some monolithic home theater, since it'll add to the experience.
I treat 3D the same way I do buying BluRays vs. DVDs. If I'm going to buy something spectacular, I'll buy the BluRay. If I'm going to buy, say...some random rom-com (and yes, I do buy one, from time to time), I'm not going to pay 30 bucks to watch it at 1080p. Nevermind that my player upscales, anyway, so it's not even a noticeable loss on any non-action film. Like I said, the only reason 3D seems to be going down [this time around] is because Hollywood is trying to force-feed it to us, and it's creating a negative impact. Thankfully, the gaming industry isn't (not as much, anyway), so it might actually stick if the film industry starts exhibiting some common sense (which I doubt, but stranger things have happened).

No one cares about 3D, no one wants it or asked for it. It adds nothing and is a gimmick. All we care about as gamers are well made fun games, if they happen to be 3D, then fine. But 3D doesnt improve a shit badly made game.

So they chose not to add 3d to the vita because "six-axis controls and 3d don't gel". Yet they expect people to buy a move, which you have to swing and flail around, and a 3dtv, which you'll need to be still to get full enjoyment out of? Am I missing something here?

It's nice that at least someone is being sensible about how to approach 3D, and not cramming it in the last minute.

That being said, I still don't like 3D. I still think it's a stupid gimmick and it yanks me out of whatever I'm watching, plus I don't like the eye strain and slight heachache I get later on.

I just want this whole 3D nonsense to go away.
