Why not just make it so a coproration with no business at all holding data on citizens, can't hold their data. Especially credit card numbers.

No, June 2. July 2 is a Saturday. And the House isn't even in session between June 25 and July 5.

Though it previously declined an invitation to appear before the inquiring U.S. Congress, Sony has now changed its mind.
I might be cynical but this time I think everyone will agree when I say how convenient. If congress is discussing it, you can be damn sure the decision whatever it is will not benefit the customers. When they talk about preventing data theft they're actually talking about censoring and controlling internet. They've been trying to do it for years. They just need a good enough excuse.
Bravo, I'm glad somebody said this.
I agree entirely.
Congress doesn't give a shit about people potentially losing money. They care about gaining more control over the people.

I wonder how long it will take for someone to spin this as "VIDEO GAMES ARE EVIL!"

Oh, I thought you chaps across the pond had renamed July. The months would sound pretty cool if they went "...April, May, June, June 2, August, September..."
[sub](Yes, it was just a bad joke on how you write the date.)[/sub]

Read this. Sony may or may not have shown criminal negligence. If a bank gets robbed and they didn't have good security, the bank is still going to get trouble, people are trusting the bank with their personal information, like Sony, thus if Sony cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they didn't have good security, then we may not see the NGP released.
