So, Microsoft making over 50% of computer games unable to be played on an Apple OS for years somehow doesn't count?

And I'm really sure a signifigant number of people are going to find that the only way they can watch a movie is to stream it on their 360, and not stream it over their PC for free, or go rent a DVD.
Well, thats as much down to the games creators as it is MS, Blizzard always made their games Mac friendly, as did a few other companies, but until the Mac got intel chips, it always required that extra bit of coding and "money spent" for a portion of the market that at the time, was relatively little.

Yes you can stream stuff elsewhere but that isnt what this is about. I personally don't have either a 360 or a PS3, yet I do have Virgin Media, and can watch a movie via that (though its a crappy selection), and how many people have media pcs set up? Or a normal PC wired to their TV. I certainly don't so should I want to stream via PC I have to sit in a cramp area at a desk on a crappy chair. The topic of discussion here is simply about how petty it is for sony to pull the plug on this surely... It's just costing everyone money, and helping no one, not even themselves.

What a load of Bovine Scat. Sony should've thought of this idea first on their PS3. Too bad Microsoft has been ahead of Sony in almost every console innovation for a few years now.
Sony already has a video service on PSN, infact it came out WAAYYYY before this Netflix intergration and was launched on the night of their E3 conference. Though admitedly, it was sudden and out there and I've never really used it myself.

I don't see why everyone is saying that this is a petty move by Sony or why they're surprised, for one it's their own proporty on their opponent's platform and why the hell would they let their movies be on that platform if they already have their movies on their own platform through their own service?

It's not that surprising, it's business, I wouldn't want my crap on my enemies crap so they would get money off of my crap.

are you on crack?
name me one thing microsoft has ever come up with that hasnt been previously done?
XBox Live.
So paying for a service that was free from Sony? Big improvement there
You do realize that Microsoft came up with the idea first, right?
dreamcast had online play before xbox even came out. so did ps2.

Apart from the aforementioned Live?
Hard Drives
Media Streaming
Wireless Controllers (granted Wavebird beats MS here)
In build Voice Comms?

Sony really haven't done anything innovative in a while. They've made alot of optimisations on existing tech however.
Ps2 had a port for a hard Hard drive,
as youve said, wave bird did a wireless ps1 control,
ps2 games had voice com back in august 2002 with games such as Socom US navy seals, whereas xbox live didnt even come out till november of that year.
face it, aside from make gamers pay for a service they can get as good on ps3, microsoft havent done much for gaming. whereas sony and playstation has revolutionised gaming on so many levels

Yes like all that force feedback and analog joystick technology.

Or that idea that Backwards Compatibility can go suck it.

Oh wait.

And where's this Sony-built PS1 wireless controller you seem to be talking about?

Exactly. I can't think of a damn thing that Microsoft could do in retaliation that would actually be legal.
I also meant how Sony made stuff not work for the Xbox.

well ps3 is backwards compatable with peripherals, you just need a usb converter for the ps3.
as for backwards compatable games, sony took the ps2 chip out the ps3 to reduce production costs, to make it cheaper than what a 360 would cost given all the extras needed. if your so bothered about old games, pick up a second hand ps2 for £20, or jus get a 60gb ps3 secondhand.
and i never said anythin about a sony wireless ps1 control. wavebird made that, but im assuming it never really caught on cos i only recently heard of it

Wow, make it sound like xbox will never be able to play these movies. It's only an issue with the licensing that they wanted to fix so that it couldn't be openly shared between systems and what not. As soon as that is rectified the movies will return.

So M$ paying off studios like Square Enix, and RockStar, so they can make Exclusive GAMES into Multi-Platform Titles isn't a 'petty move', but Sony making there 'movies' that they OWN the intelictual rights to, ISN'T?!

Serious, I can taste the Hypocracy in this and I tell ya, it don't taste good at all.
Erm... well the first thing is making it so that a game can be played by more people, and widening the media. This means increased sales for the game companies. Whereas Sony's move has mean't a reduction in how many people can watch the movies, meaning less sales for the film companies and Netflicks themselves.

MS made gaming slightly better and gave you more choice, and get gaming industry more money. Sony are trying to give us less, and making the movie industry make less money!
microsoft have made the industry worse by doing this. the fact is, multiformat games are only as good as the worst system as theyre on, so games like ff13 and gta 4 are only as good as the 360 can handle, and lets face it, the ps3 is superior. fact.exclusive titles mean the games are talored to teh console features, hence mgs4 being one of the best games graphically we'll see for a looong while

Yeah, I know, but your the first person in the thread to actually being up how certain consumer laws would keep Microsoft from lashing back in certain ways, hense the praise.

Wait a tick, you're telling me Sony had an opportunity to capitalize on another company's application and they instead chose to deny their product? WHAT? That's not just petty, it's madness!

^ That sounds like a perfectly valid, non-biased argument...oh wait. No it's not. We already have air conditioning in this place, we don't need any fans blowing away in here.

Seriously, I'm quite surprised that Sony did this. This hurts Netflix as well as themselves. As someone before me said, they've resorted to kicking each other in the shins. I'd add that their toes are made of glass. If one kicks the other hard enough, we'll be looking at two crippled beings.

I seriously wish MS would remove Sonys ability to buy Windows licenses.
Honestly, that would be as stupid as what Sony's doing now (or so you say, I say that what they're doing is common sense).

It would be stupid for MS to remove any MS applications on Sony products because then they'd be doing the same thing that Sony's doing with the movie stuff (allegedly).

However, that being said, I say it's common sense for Sony to remove their movies on the 360 platform (and only the 360 platform, PCs and other devices are free from this) since they already have their own video service on the PS3.
