While I understand to an extent what Kazzy is saying, FOR GOD'S SAKE MAKE UP YOUR MIND!

It's true that it's better to get it right than to get there first, though you need to start first in order to eventually get it right, sometimes it's better to get it right than to be first, yadda yadda yadda.

I will say that people read way too deep between the line to what Hirai says.

He's not saying anything about "right" and "wrong" 3D elements. The technology of the 3DS is only good for one person at a time, inserting it's technology in a 3D TV for movies and games does not work when multiple people are in the room. Different 3D techniques serve different purposes, why does this mean that Nintendo is wrong?

Personally, I'm still extremely skeptical of the 3DS. I don't know what it is, but something is holding me back from buying one. Maybe it's because I've been disappointed by Nintendo consoles before, I hardly play my Wii or DS, and the novelty of their consoles wears off for me. I don't know what it is, but I'm still very cautious with the 3DS.

We don't want to be first, we want to do it right!

That's why we released the PSP GO?

thing with the 3ds, is that it will likely be the first system to have games that utilize the 3d as a gameplay feature and not as a gimmick. With the ps3 3d is an option, but EVERY 3ds will display in 3d so every person buying 3ds exclusive games will be able to utilize the 3d.. meaning developers wont be spending loads of resources building a game around these 3d mechanics only to have 10% or less of their potential customers able to use it

Didn't want to rush to be first?
Moving out console 3D when almost nobody owns the required TVs isn't rushing? Or will they take so long in coming they will be more common by then?

Is this also your argument for the Move, which is guaranteed to split your audience between haves and have nots (while impressing no one because it's been done)?

Or are you grasping for something to say since 3DS stole your thunder this year?

It's true that the 3DS only works for one person, but I still consider it a much better step then what Sony is doing. If 3D is going to have a future it's not going to be with glasses.

Though maybe I am just annoyed because I already wear glasses. I might soften a little if the make prescription 3D glasses with an on/off feature.

As a gamer with glasses I sympathize (though at the same time I say "Suck it up you maggots!") though wearing the 3D glasses over my own don't really bother me much.

Prescription 3D glasses, however, would be awesome. Invent it already, Silver Patriot, you'll make a fortune!

In the future there will be a time where you can see 3D without glasses. Unfortunately that won't be for a while, and it isn't so much as being the first one to get there as it is to be the first one to get it right. I have no idea if the 3DS does 3D without any glasses well (supposedly it does), but I really can't say anything about it until I use it myself.

Apparently, though, when Nintendo does 3D with their 3DS it's somehow "Not a gimmick!" and "it totally works!", yet with Sony and their 3D somehow it is a gimmick and no one gives a shit. I realize that part of that thinking is the "no glasses!" stuff, but (this is going for all 3D, but mainly the 3DS) does the 3D really enhance the gameplay? Are there any gameplay aspects attributed to 3D? Are there any clever ways that 3D is implemented into gameplay? On a console I can kind of understand it, a better sense of depth and immersion, though the way a handheld uses 3D seems beyond me.

But now I'm just rambling, I personally don't care about 3D but I certainly support more technology advances, even if it is sometimes a gimmick/totally worth it.

Nintendo is like mac/apple. They play smart, they know power only appeals to male nerds, where innovation and sleek design appeal to women and metro guys and kids and old people. They also know that people don't want to fork out $$$ on 3D TVs or supercomputer.

Tell that to the fucking PSP and its faulty square key that sony just told the fans to learn to deal with.
Faulty square key? whatever are you talking about? I have never heard anyone complain about the square key, nor have I ever seen anything wrong with it. Hell most of the time it's the nub that gets all the flak.

All this says to me is that the next thing Sony is going to unveil is a 3D PSP and act as though they thought it was awesome the whole time.

Someone should probably tell this guy about the PSP Go.

Pretty much same as always then. Expect that in the next year or so, and completely ignore the fact that the 3DS exists, which will be pretty damn funny.

I think the tech for the 3DS is great, and that they should get on to doing that for a 3D tv without glasses! But I think 3D on a small screen isn't really impressive to me, I've got a preference for the giant screen televisions and what not

I have nothing against the 3DS as a game system right now, my only issue with all this is just what purpose does the 3D even serve.
Try poking one of your eyes out and see how much you'll miss being able to see in 3D. :)

It's the Big N. They know what they're doing when it comes to handhelds.

There's a reason I bought a Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP (backlit screen!), DS, and then DS Lite.

Kind of redundant in my case seeing as I have a lazy eye XD. Try harder :p

Doesn't nintendo have 9 months to perfect it? March 2011 it's coming out right?

Wasn't the 3DS at e3 a prototype? I'm pretty sure it was.
It takes months to build, package, and ship consoles, so it's more like they have maybe two-three months to refine the prototype before they have to go gold with it.

I find it interesting that after the hit sony had to take to recover from the awful the PS3 launch it's still saying that 'being the first' isn't necessarily the way to go.

It is the way to go! Look at the ps2! It beat the XBOX and the GameCube in terms of sales and whatnot because it was the first next gen console. The 360? ahead in sales and development because it released before the ps3. And the Wii was the first with it's motion controllers.

Being first brings loyalty from customers and allows you to test the waters before anyone else.
