I think they were confused. Wii and 360 marketing had hit every known demographic from shore to mountain, so Sony marketing was probably unsure exactly where to fit in. I imagine it's like arriving too late to an orgy and the only person left unsoiled is a creepy middle-aged guy who smells like Jim Beam and you are forced to let him spoon you all night in order to prevent anything worse from happening.
Hey; Im that middle aged man, what are you trying to say?

And thats Jack Daniels you can smell, must be the tic tacs...

Its a shame about Sony. I own a 360 myself but theres room for everyone, people tend to cut back on luxuries and expensive items when times are hard and the ps3 falls into both. Theyll get through it, the ps3 is young yet, look at how long the ps2 has hung in there.

That "bean" on the link seems over priced for a 1 gb mp3 player. Unless it gives hand jobs whilst playing music im not interested.

I like the chart.

Yeah, Sony's not doing so hot. Heck, they weren't doing so hot before the economy collapsed.
Apparently so. The only division of Sony thats making money, or so I heard, was the TV division.

Although Microsoft are suffering too as they had to lay off workers for the first time in that company's history a few months ago, I think it was.

Electronic luxuries are possibly one of the most likely to be affected by the economic troubles, and given all of Sony's divisions are in this field, I suspect things will only get worse for Sony in the next year or 2.

I have to think the management could do with some housecleaning, or at least belt tightening. Marketing particularly seems like it's been less than clever of late.
Have to agree there. They wasted millions on failed marketing.
You know what, they should stop making 'white' versions of all their consoles, NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE COLOUR!

Also I have said it once, I'll say it again, make an emulator of the PS2, put it up for... I dunno $50? less on the PS3.

All existing people download it (because they probably all have PS2 games) it's cheaper that the current PS2 out there, it helps ween people OFF the PS2 console, and it makes people wanna buy the PS3 again.

Yes I know this is a feature it SHOULD come with, but think about it, I think knocking off the BAckwards compat knocked off about 100+? so this is cheaper than buying it WITH backwards compat
They didn't knock off the Backwards compatibility. The removed the hardware and PS2/X is now done through software emulation in the 80gb and 160gb.
Really? I had no idea, when did they release these, are they out in AUS to, and will I have to kill someone to get them.
I don't know about Australia, but I got mine last May, and the backwards compatibility works for all except the most obscure games.

Er, how would you like me to prove this exactly? I was at SCEE, worked as part of the R&D/support dept. Would you like my LinkedIn profile - I'm a bit hesitant to post that directly on an open forum, but I've sent a direct message with it...

Now, I was never a manager, so can't claim to know what bonuses they get (though I know a few on disgustingly high salaries for what they do), and suspect that SCEE is different to SCEI, but I did get a few bonuses, and they were generally around 1-2 months pay tops for engineers (performance related, of course).
Wow dude, thanks for proving your worth your position (though PM), takes a brave man to do that.

Why is that all the news from Sony is bad? I mean even when the Gamecube was falling behind there was always something good to report. I guess Sony is just new to being in last place for once.
When the Gamecube "failed" for Nintendo, Nintendo backed up with the Gameboy Advanced. Sony is backing up nowhere. Their console costed them to much and people these days arent buying Sony's hardware crap like they did a couple of years ago. Nintendo is not complaining cause the Nntendo DS and Wii sold together 150 million units worldwide and they didnt blow rivers of money to make their little consoles filled with expensive hardware or Blu Rays.

Nintendo learned with the GameCube just cause it has Nintendo on it doesnt mean it will sell like cupcakes, so they rethinked their strategy. Sony didnt learn from them and thought just cause it was named Playstation 3 it would have the same impact that the Playstation 2.

...a bunch of mindless jerks who will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes...

... what I don't even... what does that even mean?
It's a quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. The titular guide describes the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks who will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes." Incidentally, a copy of the Encyclopedia Galactica that came from the future by falling into a wormhole defines the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came." The Wii was codenamed Revolution...

The news from Sony isn't all bad, but I have noticed the media tends to be anti-Sony spinning things into rumors. For example when this article was posted on Kotaku they explicitly said this would affect ALL of Sony, even SCEA, yet there's been no data to support it.

For the PS2 titles backwards compatibility only exists for the hardware that was released early on. PSX titles work on all of them.

If you want to know why PS2 compatibility was dropped it's because there were too many compatibility problems with titles and it would take years and cost millions to run every PS2 title through QA and debug them all over again for another console. It's much easier to sell a $75 PS2 to cater to people who want to play last gen games. Besides, the PS2 still sells more hardware than the next gen consoles.
