All I can say is that this better be backwards compatible with PS4 games at least.

I remember hearing those rumors that not only will you be able to play your PS4 discs on it, but also PS1,2, and 3 discs as well.

Title pretty much says it all. Sony has posted an official announcement on its blog [https://blog.us.playstation.com/2019/10/08/an-update-on-next-gen-playstation-5-launches-holiday-2020/] for when its new console, imaginatively named the PlayStation 5, will be released and it's holiday season 2020.

I suppose Microsoft might not be far behind with its own next-gen announcement.

You shouldn't believe or put stock in rumors.

The only thing that we can credibly say at this point is that the PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 software, anything older than that is pure wishful thinking.

For example, the next-gen console will still accept physical media; it won?t be a download-only machine. Because it?s based in part on the PS4?s architecture, it will also be backward-compatible with games for that console.

4k graphics, 60+ FPS, I mean we can technically go beyond what is capable of PS4.

Apparently this new console will have super fast loading. If true, think of all the games that don't have to design their levels around the game needing time to load itself in. The recent God of War had a bunch of that, with slow climbing, squeeze-throughs, boulder gates etc. If the new console is that fast with loading, developers could avoid most of that shit.

The way I think of it is, people said the same thing of the PS4, but I know now after using it and playing its games for a few years that it?s rough going back to the 3.

Pretty cool. The most exciting thing for me is that mass reduction in load times. Hope it's not just marketing speak. Also yaay for BC as I would hate a classic like Bloodborne to be relegated to obsolete hardware. Do wonder how far they can push graphics though before it becomes too cost intensive. Companies like Rockstar and Rocksteady already just released one game this gen. Disagree about the criticism of PS4 having 'bare bones' UI. It's simple and clean and I really wouldn't like it to be cluttered with garbage.

This is not surprising in the slightest. I honestly doubt that I'll buy one at launch, I'll do what I usually do and wait a few years when it has games I want to play. Something like a Horizon: Zero Dawn sequel should be enough, but I doubt that is going to happen.

As in, for launch or at all? Horizon: Zero Dawn had pretty much a cliff hanger ending, I'm sure they're hard at work making a sequel for it.
