Sony Doesn't Like it if You Post the CEO's Email

Sony would like to remind everybody that SCEA CEO Jack Tretton is not, in fact, consumer support, and you shouldn't email him to escalate your complaints to the right division. Really.

Okay, let's bust open the file cabinet and sort this one under "Yeah, that's kind of silly": Our friends over at The Consumerist apparently got a message from a reader who had become frustrated in Sony's delays dealing with an issue regarding his PlayStation. The reader's solution? Email Jack Tretton, President and CEO Sony Computer Entertainment America - aka the man who calls all the PlayStation-related shots in North America.

But that wasn't the craziest part: emailing the CEO actually worked, and said PlayStation owner had his complaint escalated.

However, that complain about industry leaks [http://consumerist.com/2010/02/sony-doesnt-like-us-posting-ceos-email-address.html]."

For now, while Sony would like to remind everyone that Jack Tretton is not customer service and that's what the et al [http://blog.us.playstation.com] are for, The Consumerist isn't budging.

This is silly, but it's silly in a way that makes us snicker at the Internet. So just remember, faithful readers: Though you really shouldn't email Jack Tretton for customer support (and we're not going to post said email here), sometimes it actually works.

Go figure.

Well yes, we shouldn't actually e-mail CEOs for customer support. Because if we start doing it en-masse, then they will just stop paying attention, sooooo... yeah. With great power comes great responsibility and all that.

I think I may e-mail the Prime Minister. My bin hasn't been emptied, and I've got boxes to get rid of.

Why not email the boss? If the people under him aren't doing their job, talk to someone who can make it happen. Remember, his job is dependant upon his customers, no one is above the people who give you money.

They say "Don't e-mail our CEO" but it got his complaint the attention it wanted, didn't it? I mean sure, might not work from now on but it worked for this fellow.

Seems like a solid plan to me.

Typical single-source BS from those jackholes. These were the dorks who went ballistic over the dusty PS3 in the middle of a media blackout about the 30%+ failure rate of the 360. Yeah, they sure are on the consumer's side.

But what if my 4 person boycott didn't work? Consumerist should post _their_ CEO's email as well. Otherwise, they're just hypocrites looking to pick a fight.

They've got their Executive Editor [http://consumerist.com/about-us/], which is pretty much the same thing.

Yes, but do you think he'd consider an un-banning request as a "business inquiry"? What about if I'm having troubles logging into their site?

The fact that they choose to limit their labeled proper access to their executive editor still equals hypocrisy if they don't acknowledge that Sony's CEO is reasonable in asking the same.

And none of this seems to be helping anyone I'd consider a consumer.

I hope I can get an email to him before he changes the address.

I can see referring people to the official ps3 forums and everything but sony never responds to anything there. I doubt anyone at sony reads any of it.

I've called the 800 line and they give you whatever is on their script.

This really is probably the best way to log a complaint.

No, I was right. Where does all the money come from? The ones who buy the products...the customers. Shareholders buy shares, but that is not the sole income of a company. The primary moneymaker is whatever they turn out as product.
