Sony barely supports the Vita, why do an updated version of it? I own one and I think it's fantastic, but I'm mad about how little support it gets.
Yeah, I need a lot more good faith before I try my hand at a new Sony handheld console. The Vita has just been absolutely ignored by Sony as of late, the only games coming out on it that have interested me have been games that I already own somewhere else and can't be bothered to buy a second time.

I've still got some games yet to play, but I was sort of banking on them releasing a single a single new game I'd want to play in the 2 years that I've owned it.

Most of its support seems to be in the form of softcore anime porn games, such as the one where you rub off the clothing of scantily clad preteens for some sort of benefit in game. Frankly I'm surprised that a portable game console, one that you're playing in full public view, is getting so much attention from games like that.
It's really become a "Play my favorite PS1" game console for me. I own all the really good games on it, so far as I can tell. One game that makes me mad though is Valkyria Chronicles 2. You can't install it from the store because it's not marked "compatible" with the Vita, and I no longer own a PS3.... Sony needs to get their shit together. You can't use the PS4 to put games on your Vita, it's a glorified controller for the system, which is also extremely stupid of them.

Likewise, although to be fair I missed a lot of good PS1 games.

Biggest thing that pisses me off is that they still haven't gotten Spyro and Crash games on the PS Store for NA even though they've already made them compatible for the Vita (As evidenced by the European store). There's a number of other games they've removed like Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2.

Hell, it's like they don't want money.

Is it just me or is it really sad that Sony still can't design a decent handheld gaming console? They keep trying to make it as a one piece gadget. They should take a hint from Nintendo's 3DS and Nvidia's Shield. What do they have in common, I wonder?
Could you be more specific? What specifically is wrong with the Vita hardware or design?
The design limits the hardware. See, if Vita had a "lap-top" kind of design like 3DS and Nvidia Shield they could do more with it. They could make the hardware inside it better because they'd have more room, they could make the battery last longer (again, because they'd have more room for a bigger battery) and they could have a better button layout.

I think the hardware is great compared to the 3DS (it's only real competition), likewise the battery life is on par with the 3DS and I can't see anything wrong with the button layout.

There are a few things I don't like about the Vita. The buttons are too small, I prefer the bigger buttons of the PSP. The back is slippery as all hell, I bought a grip to prevent dropping it. The rear touchpad is simply in the way.
