Well as ridiculous as it is right now I have all 6 systems (PS-3, 360, Wii, DS, PSP, and PC) especially given than I am disabled. I'll probably never have it this "good" again.
I have no vested interest in the success or failure of any one system this round of the war, that says the PS-3 is a potentially more powerful system than the 360, it's just hard to program for, and as such doesn't have much coming out for it yet.
I think Sony is banking on the idea that the 360 will maxx out first, and since there will already be a partial PS-3 infrastructure people will pick up the PS-3 instead of going with whatever new console Microsoft decides to launch. I'm not sure if this will happen (sounds hokey) but it's their strategy, and I can't see it playing out that way this year.
Also it's possible that we're only seeing part of the equasion and they are dealing primarily with figures from the Japanese market. In absolute terms neither system is a failure as they are both profitable.
My big problem with the PS-3 is that I sold my PS-2, and I need to use the older 60GB version to play both PS-2 and PS-3 games. If my PS-3 croaks I'm just as likely to go buy a PS-2 to replace it as a non-backwards compadible PS-3 because I STILL play PS-2 games and honestly there are more of those that I like in my sizable collection than there are dedicated PS-3 games.
At any rate the PS-3 DOES still have a bit of an advantage on the RPG front. The 360 had Lost Odyssey and Mass Effect, and a bunch of "failures" like Infinate Undiscovery, Last Remnant, etc.. The PS-3 still has the PS-2 RPGs behind it (well for those with backwards compadible systems) like Persona 4, as well as Disgaea 3 and the upcoming Cross Edge.
Microsoft neglected the RPG front the first time around and it hurt them, and truthfully while they are trying this round, they haven't been extremely successful. Pretty much their big hope on the RPG front is going to be Masss Effect 2 due out at the end of this year.
