Oh thank you Anonymous, internet news just wouldn't be as interesting without you. I'm not even picking a side on this, I just think it's damn funny.

Also, to the people on this thread who are 'hoping that they (Anonymous) die' and saying 'Why the fuck has nobody put a bullet in them yet?': Congratulations. You're now bigger scumbags then both Sony and Anonymous. If you honestly think that a solution to this problem is violence, or you wish violence upon either side, then you really need to re-evaluate your moral standards. Regardless of my thoughts on Sony or Anonymous' actions, threats or wishes of violence are far more 'evil' or immature then both sides.

Well, if the lawyers at Sony are as crafty and manipulative as Anonymous says they are, they would use this attack as material in the courtroom.

ANONYMOUS HAS A VERY FUCKING OFFICIAL POSITION ON LULZ.
As a member of anonymous I declare you incorrect.

Now what're you gonna do about it?
That was a joke based off a quote from something Anonymous said a while back in a press release guide for journalists -_-;

Anonymous has no official position on abortion
Anonymous has no official position on tax policy
Anonymous has no official position on health care
Anonymous has no official position on collective bargaining agreements
Anonymous has no official position on campaign finance reform
Anonymous has no official position on the Tea Party
Anonymous has no official position on the Democratic Party
Anonymous has no official position on the Republican Party
Anonymous has no official position on the Green Party
Anonymous has no official position on global warming
Anonymous has no official position on off-shore drilling
Anonymous has no official position on budget deficits
Anonymous has no official position on George Soros
Anonymous has no official position on the Koch brothers
Anonymous has no official position on Fox News
Anonymous has no official position on MSNBC
Anonymous has no official position on CNN
Anonymous has no official position on NAFTA
Anonymous has no official position on the IMF or World Bank
Anonymous has no official position on Wall Street
Anonymous has no official position on entitlement programs
Anonymous has no official position on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
Anonymous has a very fucking official position on LULZ

Also, not meaning to sound like an ass, but you sound like a newfag. Going LOLZ I ARE ANON makes you look like a bit of a tool.
maybe, (for the record, I'm not that new), but I really don't care. My point was that Anonymous can be joined by anyone at anytime, so saying "Anonymous has no official position" is really a meaningless statement. How can a group with no form of representation possibly have an official position on anything at all?

You guys realize that when "Anonymous says" something it really means "some dude says," right? Anonymous isn't a group. Anonymous is a pastime. There is no leader, no structure, no plan.

If lots of people are Anonymousing the same corporation's website, it's because that corporation has managed to piss off that many individual people at the same time.

So according that logic patents and trade secrets should be illegal because they limit people's abilities to tinker or learn about a product? That'd be nice if we could afford to make everything publicly available and open source but as for me, a programmer, fuck you guys. I actually want to get paid and nobody is going to pay me if the product will inevitably be free.

This self-righteous "I know better then everyone else and will force the world to see my view" attitude is a pain in the butt and the idea that attack someone is a good way to convince them to see you view is just plain short sighted. Not to mention that in hurting Sony they also hurt all of Sony's customers by denying them access to Sony's website. This whole thing is a big ball of bad ideas to me.

I don't really mind this . A denial of service attack is a nice way of saying: "we can fight as well." without doing too much real damage. I don't really have a preferred side, but it seems logic that when sony attacks with a lawsuit, the hacker community strikes back in some way.

On the ball. If this shit stands, then, at the worst extent, anyone anywhere can do anything they want with the hardware and software, and due to that, added with the piracy, companies aren't going to release anything, games or hardware, no one will get paid, jobs are going to dissipate, companies are going to be closed down, and we're going to get a nice big bowl of fuck all.

Why does everyone think that sony is in the wrong? They had their product exposed, their company embarrassed, and their sales likely damaged by the hack. People argue that Hotz (This guy makes me ashamed to live in New Jersey) had a right to hack it, and that Sony didn't have any right to complain, but WHEN YOU HIT THE ACCEPT BUTTON ON THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, YOU SIGN AWAY YOUR RIGHTS. Fair, and simple. He had zero legal right to do what he did.

Also worth noting, Hotz is up-to-the-brim full of himself. He's an asshole, just watch his rap.

Another argument that people make is "Oh, what about homebrew? That's a GOOD thing!"

Wake the fuck up. Do you really think that's what people are gonna use it for? They're going to hack games till the tree has fallen. It happened. CoD was ruined until Sony fixed it.

And the ps3 doesn't need homebrew anyways.

I am sad to see anonymous making such a stupid and ignorant choice.

Anonymous is a child with a hammer. When you're a child with a hammer the whole world looks like a nail.

They just want any excuse to smash things.

Oddly,I side with Sony on this one. It seems sony would not have a problem with Tinkering with the system for cool features like in the past, but 98% of the time this tinkering leads to software piracy... including access to every game on the PSN.

Well that's a bit of a slippy slope there, but the direct implication is that no company can hide secrets about there products and one of those secrets that hackers like to decry is source code which is always being reverse engineered. If source code becomes public with no legal protection, stick a fork in the computer industry. Nobody is going to pay software engineers if they can't sell there products and nobody is going to buy what is legally free. Thus software companies will have to close up shop because there products are worthless. This means a sudden drop in software advancement because only open source would be developed and although I like open source its a slow process because it is always a side project. You program open source to help the world not to earn the money to eat. The end result is a very frustrated world where the lack of software development retards the development of electronics. Either that or strange new ways for developers to earn money emerge that might be even more restrictive and painful then the current of so horrible desire to control the state of their system in order to prevent hacking. Maybe its heavy-handed but the alternative could be much worse.

I'm only on page four yet so I have yet to see where this fun goes, but I feel after 4 pages I'm starting to see it Circle back around. I myself have been passively following this for awhile now and frankly I'm confused as fuck. There has been so much dust kicking on both sides, cause honestly neither is completely in the right, that now the issues are so obscured no one really knows what they are anymore.

So.

As is my understanding the original defense that was used against sony in this case was that he was just trying to restore original functionality right? Which to me seems like something that should be within his right from all I've read so far. Where he went wrong was putting that shit online correct?

Sony. Guys really, its almost as embarrassing as EA marketing. When this came out you could have worked with this guy, made your system better, maybe even restored the other OS option, and I guarantee you with that community reach out sales would have went up. Hell I would've got one instead of just playing on my roommates. This lawsuit is legal yes, but from what I've read sony's lawyers are playing dirtier than two girls mud wrestling (you're welcome) and doing some things that really should be called out on.

TO conclude with the OP isn't Anon attacking sony for their tactics in this lawsuit? All they seem to want is for sony to be held acountable for their less then decent actions during these last few weeks.

This is really the most ridiculous argument Ive ever hear. The "I bought it legally so I can do what I want with it" argument is extremely shallow thinking. I buy a knife legally, does that mean I'm allowed to stab people in my own home cuz I bought that too so its mine and had my own set of rules completely separate from the rest of world right?
And I'm sorry but this really bothered me. Isn't it more apt to I having bought a knife set one day go into my kitchen to find the company I got it from replacing my chef knife with a knife they say will be better. But when i discover I hate the piece of shit cause it's only a glorified giant butter knife and I want my old knife back so i can cook, I'm told no, you can't have it, and if you try to get one we'll take you to court for it. Well I'm sorry I want to eat.

Peace

Man do something useful, shutting down my PS3 playing is not helpful, not like your winning me over guys...

Do something useful like making the entire ps3 old library half off or something... jeez.
