The first game will simply be a screen displaying the patent information for this product.
Assuming this will be used for games. It could just be used to get more data during in-house testing after all. Really this information could be rather handy for developers to know, if you are trying to get emotional responses from the players would not not bee good to know if it worked?

Yay! Now when Sephiroth makes Aeris-kabobs your Playstation will know when you cry big manly tears at the loss of a clump of polygons with all of the personality of a block of tofu.
Yep how dare those people have any emotional involvement with the games they are playing. You sure showed them what fools they are.

Sounds like research study device. Example:
Scientist
At three minutes and forty two seconds the subject is excited by the Metal Gear Solid Guns of the Patriots opening cinematic. At approximately fifteen minutes nineteen seconds the subject is showing the first signs if lethargy. At twenty nine minutes fifty eight seconds the subject has died of boredom.
Hideo Kojima
Than it's all going as planned.
Translated from Japanese.
Sadly, that sums up my MGS experience.

This is a new way that Sony can collect information on how much they can charge for their console. If laughter goes up, they charge more for the system. If laughter goes down, the price goes up with Sony claiming that if you don't get our jokes you can pay more to hear the "good" ones.

lol

hmm, they could use it when your watching movies and then give you a statistic over which movies according to genre are your favorites, no more saying that some artsyfartsy movie whit ironic jokes is the best comedy ever, we have proof you like weekend at bernies 87% more .

but i doubt any one but me would be interested in seeing statistics over every single human feeling and what causes it, god i love statistics.

Wow, Sony win the "Attempt to make a controller like nintendo" award and the "make an exceedingly annoying and arbitrary control system" award.

See Yahtzee, a controller made of fruit is actually an optimistic expectation (as well as actually being a terrible idea).

You know what I think would be cool; a device similar to a mood ring that you can wear just the same. It could make games that feature silent protagonists more a better experience. Imagine your emotions being portrayed in the game, creating varied responses from NPCs and other thing depending on your state of mind.

If they make this, they'd better make the games funny or were not going to be able to laugh...

I find this whole concept laughable. Just a shame Sony hasn't released that thing yet, otherwise it could test just how laughable I find it.

Frankly the less my electronics know about me, the less paranoid I feel.
In all seriousness, having some computer/game device track your emotions doesn't work outside of concept because there's that little thing called "life" that interrupts your leisure time. Let's say the game/presentation/thing is on and the device is keeping track of my reactions, then I get called away by my spouse to do the dishes, or the cat jumps onto my lap. I seriously doubt Sony's tech will be able to factor in all those details, and assumes the viewer/player exists in a vacuum where nothing happens but the game and your reactions.
