It adds that only official PS3 wireless controllers are supported by Sony, and that future updates may render third party peripherals inoperable.
This whole thing seems less like a warning to consumers, and more like an excuse to legally introduce anti competitive practices. Remember the Microsoft memory card fiasco?
That's the pattern I'm seeing here, too. Is there any actual evidence that this is anything other than bullshit? As in along the lines of

I have a Sony recharge station for AA batteries that says:
WARNING! Attempting to charge non-SONY batteries may cause them to LEAK or EXPLODE
Why are third party products [sub]supposedly [/sub]exploding whenever they come in contact with a Sony product?
No pictures, not real, Sony! :p

Haha, the thought of PS3 controllers exploding was funny, but that picture in the article just sent me over the edge. I can just imagine 3 PS controllers at the centres of those fireballs :)

OT: Playstation controllers are really expensive, but I've had such terrible luck with faulty third-party controllers in the past, I doubt I'd use anything but an official controller nowadays. Plus, I can imagine a time when Sony released an update that (intentionally or not) rendered a third-party controller useless, so I guess I'll just have to fork out a small fortune next time I'm in the market for a controller.

I've already got two, and I never really play multiplayer anyway, so I think I'll be fine for the time-being.
