So a friend and i were having a discussion... Nintendo has many large named video game characters... ie- mario link yoshi kirby. microsoft has of course the master chief and nikko bellick. and even sony has their lovable charcters -crash bandikoot, nathan drake.

If they can pull off games such as Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl, you think all three companies would ever make a mix? Personally, id think that be cool to have luigi fighting daxter or solid snake tackling altair or ezio. whats your opinion?

No.

And how does Microsoft own Niko? GTAIV was also on the PS3. Better list would have been Marcus Fenix.

How does Microsoft have Niko Bellic? GTA4 was multiplatform excluding DLCs. yes, that would be a nice idea. To bad it would the fanboys go complete apeshit.

It might be cool, but logistically, I think it'd be far too difficult. Look for this kind of game if the industry ever starts to collapse, when all the companies combine into one massive outfit for survival.

It'll happen when monkeys escape from inside my computer and start depriving all of the world's food.

So don't count on it, because there are no monkeys in my computer. I checked.

Isn't the computer game Mugen (spelling?) like this? I know that people can make their own custom characters, which has resulted in almost every character imaginable having been made for the game at least once.

That makes absolutely no sense.
The reason it works for Nintendo is because their characters are cartoon-y enough that they can do something like that with their characters. Not only that but Sony and Microsoft's characters all have very specific stories. Nintendo's characters are just characters, none of them have personalities or a story that follows them around.

When Nintendo outgrows it's childish need for mascots, the world will be a better place.

Yes but mugen is content created by the users and that throws any concept of balance or quality out the window.

I personally would love to see all three companies combine, but it would never happen.

Well, we've seen cross-company games before, i.e. Marvel vs. Capcom, but it' a different thing altogether for them to do a joint platform effort. In a way, it's like saying "why don't Mc Donalds and Burger King join together into King Donald's", but aside from Nintendo, those aren't really owned by the platforms they are exclusive to (ignoring that GTA is cross platform, since it's been stated enough by now). That means that whoever wanted to make the game would have to buy license rights from Nintendo, Rockstar, Bungie, Naughty Dog (or whoever owns Crash nowadays), etc. just for the game to be legal, which isn't exactly in typical gaming budgets, especially when they also have to hire designers for all three platforms. If it ever did happen, even with the setbacks on cash, now is not the time to do it. The Wii just not as adaptive to games on the other two platforms as it would need to be. Maybe in a few years this would be possible, but it's still a hard thing to hope for.

Now that I think about it, most of the reason why Nintendo can do something like Smash Bros. is because of the obscene number of games they make first-party. I'm sure Sony might be able to throw a roster together, but what does Microsoft have for first-party characters, really?

The idea isn't bad, in theory, but something like that will probably only end up like a BLANK Verses BLANK fighter game, I bet. Wouldn't end up cool like Brawl at all.
