Sony destroys the XBox 180 at E3, does its own one eighty and destroys its own console?

I have a hard drive over 500GB and didn't come with the system, and I seem to boot just fine. Guess I just got lucky. It's sad to see Sony mess something up so soon after they were kicking ass so much recently. I certainly see Microsoft fanboys using this somehow...just like they still refuse to drop the PSN outage.

Looking at today's news, Positive mention for Microsoft for taking out DRM, Sony kills consoles with update. And the status quo has been restored, yaaaay.

Stories like this are part of the reason that the Gamecube was the last console I ever bought. PC gamer for life.

Whew, I dodged a bullet didn't I? I am still running 4.41, and I have a non-standard 500 gb hard drive. *turns off automatic update for now even though the patch got pulled.*

I guess they pulled it before my PS3 was set to auto-update today.

Hopefully it'll get fixed soon. I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for word of the repair.

Got an after market HDD and had automatic updates on, either they pulled it before it tried to update or I didn't have any problems with the busted one.

Oh God. Studying for exams has saved me from bricking my console. Now that is some ridiculous shit right there.

I downloaded it and didn't have a problem. But then I have a standard 250gb hard drive.

"Whatever your experience, we're obviously hoping the problem is resolved soon and in a way that's relatively painless to those afflicted with consoles."
Wait a minute...
I had to re-read that sentence a few times before I figured out that's not what it said.
Too bad, really.

Anyway, it does seem rather random if all the update was meant to do was let you turn off trophy notifications.
You've got to wonder whether Sony was secretly trying to update some fundamental part of the software architecture... Or if their update protocol is just so convoluted that they have to update a much larger portion of the software than they're actually changing.

The update was already pulled when i came home from work, but i didn't have a bigger drive installed anyways. Chances are it wouldn't have affected me.

I haven't fired up the PS3 in a few days. Looks like I managed to luck my way past a potential problem.
