Lol, "gleefully"? As Sony fights the hackers to a temporary stalemate? There's no victory to be had here; the most Sony can ever really do is restore the status quo temporarily.

Every time the hackers break a firmware revision they really are winning; all Sony can do is fight back to a neutral ground and hold that for as long as they can. Inconveniencing legitimate users with clumsy updates in the process.

They won't drop the PS3 now, but I can pretty much guarantee that the moment they launch PS4, they're gonna drop support for PS3 faster than a man dropping a pie containing the ebola virus.

I don't play with consoles, i'm a PC guy myself, but i'm really with Sony on this one. Hackers screw stuff over for the rest of the legit people using the system. All for what, to stroke their own egos?

Of course Gleefully. Whatever side destroys one another is something I really don't care about, however watching people shout, ***** and fight, saying incredibly stupid things with emotions running high? That's HILARIOUS! Hell I hope someone goes to jail because the heat generated from that would be IMMENSE.

Oh and don't take this to mean I'm a troll. I dislike instigating conflict, I mearly get off on observing it.

Actually, that makes a lot more sense than my original interpretation of your post. Fair enough.

I'm glad to see it's giving hackers a little more trouble than normal.

I really wish hackers would go away and realize no one but them likes them, but, ah, 'tis impossible.
You say that, but if you had a hack, would you use it?

Most people I've come across will exploit the power they have if they have it. Some might not search it out, but all want it.

Granted, there's a few people around who are genuinely cool, but most aren't.

Depends on what kind of player you are. You play to win AND have fun or JUST win? Hackers are most after the latter option. I have come across several of them online and they got served. As much as they enjoy winning a match by cheating, I enjoy it tenfold taking them out again and again and again.

The 2 sides are at a stalemate but I hope someone, if not Sony, gives them a run for their money.

I hacking stuff really fun or something? Do hackers get all the chicks?

These dudes seem much more into it than they should be.
They all seem themselves as white knights of the internet, "destroying" major corporations for some reason.

They are really just a group of self-entitled kids
both are wrong, they do it for the challenge! they see the this security stuff as a puzzle to solve, and mountain to climb, and then they use the home brew games as an excuse, but its not like those are realy anything big, when was the last time you heard someone talking about a home brew game in a hacked system?

I'm surprised no one so far has done this

OT: Why doesn't Sony just re-add the Other OS feature it's not that hard and it would get rid of all of their problems

If I had a hack, first I'd question how I got it, second why taking the challenge out of a game is fun.

It isn't, not for me. I just don't see how. It's like playing 'I want to be the guy' with noclip, sure you beat it, but how?

Plus my account would probably be banned or something, and being an achievement (trophy) whore, that would not go well. Heck, I won't even jailbreak so I can play games off of an HDD even though it's superior to using the disk in every way, out of the fear of sony, and my want to play online.

One thing that always pops into my head when I read these "Hackers V Company" is that the company is (No offence to them) doomed to loose. The people creating the cracks, hacks, software solutions, are doing it for free, for their own personal interest, more often than not anyway.
All the company does, is turn fiddling with their system into a game in itself, to use an analogy, they're adding new levels and bosses into their game, every time they create a security patch, the players (hackers) have a new challenge to complete.

I wonder if its occoured to them that they are fighting a completely lost battle. Anything they can do, the community can beat. Litigation and harsh methods are entirely trivial to people who remain anonymous. Geohotz has just become something of a martyr. And we all no what that can do for a cause.

While some people have said that it was "just a minor update", it still seems like a slap in the face to Sony.

Just a few hours, that's got to have hurt their morale.
Not really. Almost all software got cracked that fast. Expect Assassin's creeds DRM.

Sony should get a group of hackers and hack them back, Why not you know?
That's illegal and, if caught, will destroy their PR. Just think of the news: top electronics and gaming company take the law into their own hands with an army of hackers. Nobody would trust them again.
I've never trusted Sony, and I never will. I can never forgive them for the death of Lik-Sang.
