I hate this kind of comment. Do you work solely because you love your job? Do you think other people do? If Sony is not making a profit, there is no reason for them to continue making games. Not only because they aren't making a profit, but can't afford to make more. This is why Sega stopped making consoles. There was no profit in it. The head of Sony, or the head of the gaming division, may not be passionate about games, but as long as the people that develop the games are, what does it matter?

For that matter, what in this article gives you the impression that Sony is not passionate about games?

Actually, the more I think about your comment, the more I realize it makes no sense. I'm sorry, but the truth hurts.
If you're in the market you're in it to win it. I just don't feel like they've got the drive to be that number one spot nor the desire to do it. I don't think for a minute that they would have to sacrifice jobs and we know the console is in profit at the moment per console sold, so why not try and be the best? Financially it makes sense to want to be there, the go to console. The one that every one owns, yet they seem to be happy where they are. I do like playing on the playstation 3, don't get me wrong, it's just they don't seem to want to be any better than they are and they can be better. They're technically the best console out there.

Isn't one of the key aspects of beating the other team... making more profit then them? I'm confused as to the difference they seem to say.

As far as I'm concerned, more sales doesn't equal "winning" anyway. Look how far ahead the Wii is in sales, but how often does it get treated like a serious gaming device? Usually it's looked down upon if people even remember it exists at all. If anyone considers that winning, well, okay. I think that's a rather strange definition of winning.

As for Sony and Microsoft, they both have successful consoles on the market and both seem to be making money, so to me it looks like they're both already "winning". If Sony wants to "win more" they should worry about their public image brought about by their campaign to stomp on consumer rights, not selling more stuff.

That Twisted Metal remake will make Sony more money than they realize.

I know I'll be buying atleast 400 copies, in like, the first few hours alone.

Wouldnt they WANT to sell more PS3's or do they still make a loss on every console sold?

They have a "10 year life cycle (or was it 5?)" for the PS3 so i guess pumping out as many PS3's as quickly might be a bad thing as people will get bored of it as newer technology (Xbox720?, Wii 2?)comes out, so having them pump out slowly over a large period of time makes a certain amount of sense, and using the exclusives to make money of whats already been sold makes even more sense.

Seems like Sony knows what its talking about
Moore's law.

The cost of chips halfs every 2 years.
So PS3 probably is earning money now.

That assumes, however, that all those devices are in the same market, which they're not.
So, just pick and choose who your competitors are until you're the leader?
Or is it more of a case of "Yeah, we're not beating them."

Suppose someone were to make a killing on two-handled coffee mugs. To the point where they're the world leader in coffee mugs. Does the second place get to claim leadership, since they're in a different "market"? Coffee mugs is coffee mugs. Video game consoles is video game consoles.
See the car market. High end car are separate from the low end car for a reason. High end one are never going to out sale the lower end one, however that doesn't mean High end car are bad and low end car are good.

I hope Sony actually holds to that statement and tries not to steal things from other consoles as has become popular recently.

Who doesn't want to make money?, people saying that Sony are souless, etc., are completely missing the point here. Microsoft and Nintendo are no better than Sony in that regard, it's obviously all for the money, what?, did you really think their consoles are a "labor of love" (and an expensive one at that)?, of course not. It always have been and it will always be about the money.

I wish the best for them, I'm kinda sick to see Microsoft getting the upper hand.

It would be great if the PS3 took the lead from the Xbox 360, says Sony, but it's not a priority this year.
"Lead" is such a strange, strange word for second place. Fourth if you count handhelds into the mix.

To be nitpicky, it kinda is in the same market, it's just in a different segment of the same market. "People buying games" is sort of a general market. But yeah, Sony is pretty much 2nd in its target market.

Yeah, I agree with you...

If all you're doing is looking to make money, there's really a problem. It means you're not looking to give people great experiences with your product, you're just looking to take their money by any means necessary...
