I recently downloaded the Vegas 10 trial for a school project, and I finally finished it today. The only problem is, I have no idea how to finish. I know it has something to do with rendering, but when I render it, the entire screen is black when I watch it. No picture. No audio. Nothing. I tried the interactive tutorials, but they didn't say anything. Can someone tell me what to do?

So it doesn't give you any errors of any sort? And did you completely render/export the movie and still have it all black? Make sure there wasn't an export setting off par with others that would screw with it. I remember having a similar-ish problem a while ago but after double checking on the files used in the project and restarting the program and computer, it seemed to work fine.

There's no export option on it. If you mean I imported them the same way/same file, then yes. I did that.

Sorry, guess my terminology is off :p

I mean, is this black screen there just in the project area while in vegas, or have you finished the project and played it in say, Media player, and still have the problem?

Media player. The video plays fine in Vegas.

I'll have to look a bit into it to be sure, never heard of it happening before. What file type and resolution was it saved as?

It does the same thing with every file type, but I have no idea what resolution it was. I'm going to assume that it doesn't matter as well. Also, the nothingness lasts for 6 seconds, when the video is 1:45.

What has the extent of your editing been to the video for that portion?

Excuse the random questioning, just seeing if I can pinpoint some problem from general things. If its a more specific problem I might still be able to help, just not right off the top of my head.

Put in a song, and some text. That's it.

All I can think of now is something wrong with the root files. You didn't move any clips from their original locations or anything mid-project did you? That's the only cause of it I can see at this point. Other than that it's something I cannot tell yet. I will look into it a bit but if things really don't fix themselves, you could try the Vegas movie studio software, IMO it's just as good for simple editing like it seems you are doing.

I've been using videos from an SD card. I guess it doesn't matter now. I'll just ask my teacher if I can hook up my laptop to the projector so I can play it from Vegas. Thanks for trying, though.

Not to sound like a troll, but After Effects CS5 is much better.
Sorry. :)

But for the actual help part: I have no idea, sounds like a wierd problem.
Sometimes trials restrict certain features. Some trial versions of programs don't let you load or save. Maybe that's the problem.

Vegas should give the full version for use in the trial period, so I don't think that would be the problem here.

I think it is a problem with the files used, not the program really, but I could be wrong. If I still had my trial for Vegas 10 I would try some things but I haven't really found much else yet. I would still recommend Movie Studio though, if you are still up for editing things.
