Well, I'm never buying another Sony console again, the only time I've ever going to put my details in PSN again will be for 5 minutes so I can buy the new Black Ops Zombie map.

I don't blame anyone for despising Sony right now.
Why despise sony when 80% of the fault falls on skilled hackers?
Problem is, they werent that skilled.

To me, saying that you despise sony for their misfortune is like saying you despise a person who got raped for not being strong enough to take it
It's more like 50% if what that one guy said to Congress about Sony knowing they had outdated software and no firewalls is true. Everything can get hacked, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't put any effort towards stopping hackers.

And rape isn't even remotely the same thing as hacking, so don't make that terrible comparison ever again please.

Yeah, but if you just leave your bank vault open with no guards while everyone is out on a lunch break, every unskilled person could just walk in and help themselves. If you have very good security, the number of people who could possibly rob that bank successfully dramatically decreases.

Again, no security is 100% fool-proof, but that doesn't mean you should have pitiful security that allows a larger group of people to get through it.

I put my trust in Sony.

My hard earned money, they PROMISED they would keep it safe, did they?

No

P.S: You spelt "Despise" wrong.
A bank promises to keep your money safe. If they get robbed by extremely skilled criminals do you blame the bank?

To err is human that is why you shouldn't hate Sony and also why I originally misspelled despise
Yes, I would blame the bank. They should take preventative measures to protect my funds from such an event.

Pushing blame is odd, some people just don't want to admit that Sony had a responsibility to their customers. The stock drop shows this.

Trouble is that all the information we get points to Sony having very few preventative measures set up and that is their fault.

You know, I think Sony could resolve a lot of these problems by simply making a public apology for it's behaviors over the last few years and changing it's policies.

Like it or not, this all pretty much got started because of Sony deciding to remove the "Other OS" option from their systems supposedly for security purposes, but actually because of their concern over losing a few bucks to piracy, and not caring about how many people they hurt in the process, or pesky things like the morality of taking away a feature someone paid for.

The Hackers are more or less providing that removing the other OS service did NOTHING for their crappy security, and that it was all about screwing everyone for their bottom line, since serious hackers could destroy them at will anyway.

I kind of suspect a lot of their problems would vanish if they just came out, apologized, and took better care of their customers.

This would also work well as a statement to other companies involved online, that they are at the mercy of their users, and to keep themselves in check, or else eventually they are going to slot off the wrong people. You can only push so far before you get pushed back and lose everything.

I understand WHY Sony doesn't want to pucker up to it's user base, but I think that's the bottom line, and really at this point it's pride, and fear of the precedents it will set for online business, that is preventing it. Yet at the same time, that's where things are liable to end up anyway.

Whether there will be a third wave of attacks isn't relevent, the bottom line is that we know there could be, and that Sony couldn't stop them, Sony knows that too, so why should they continue to force the issue?

I kind of expect that there won't be a third wave, and rather that the hackers responsible will probably wait for Sony to launch with it's updated security, and then tear that down to make a statement.

We'll see what happens in the long run.
Yip. Wanted to say just about the same thing. I never used the other OS feature but was extremely angry that Sony removed it and still haven't created a cross-game-chat after so many requests for it.

God damn it, where is my PSN?! Sony said they'd have it back up this week. It's Friday and we don't have shit! This is getting ridiculous.

No surprise there. People have been getting rid of their PS3's in my store for weeks now. I'm fresh out of 360's to sell them. I've had to slash PS3 trade in values down to $75 even for the rare ones. And working in one of the top 20 highest crime rate cities in America, having their friend who usually pipes up to say "ya dun go-a tes it, it werk" glaring at me and feeling up their left breast on their jackets isn't helping my perspective on Sony either. So stop threatening to shoot me because the system is now worthless.

And just like that, Anonymous has damaged a multinational Corporation.

I find this sad because a lot of people might end up losing their job, but this could have been prevented if Sony had not acted like dicks in the first place.

The Bank has Insurance protections and FDIC backing it in case the money gets stolen. The Bank user never gets its money stolen.

The escapist members are really rough people. "You messed up. You made a mistake. You are the biggest fool. and you are evil." "You do everything to fix mistake you made? Shouldn't have made mistake to begin with." "Sony are corrupt incompetent jerks and they deserve everything they get." "I only feel small amount of sympathy for Sony and poor fools who trusted them." Maybe I'm just not as smart as the other members here but I've been vulnerable to the belief that the worst can happen anytime anywhere to anyone regardless of circumstances and that hobbling a person for there mistakes regardless of there efforts to make up for it often comes back too haunt you when you made mistake and was in dire need of sympathy and understanding unless of course you don't believe in that sort of thing in which case I guess it's fine though I could never be your friend you'd make life really hard on me.

So, Sony's gotten screwed over and they're being treated like trash because of weak-ass statements with no solid evidence behind them that suggest Sony was cheap with their security?

Good to see the courts don't work like this, or hear-say would be just as effective as solid evidence.

I'm sorry... I didn't realize that SONY is a human person that needs all our sympathy or support to not fall into depression and kill itself... Poor little SONY, so weak and frail, never did anything wrong in its life and has only got about 30 billion dollar and the legal defense team of a small country to defend itself...
I'm going to go cry now.
Well. If crying is what you want too do than go ahead personally though I was just interested in people Not shoving there thumb into a person's eye regardless of who or what they are. Although your avatar is brock sampson and your avatar name is dexter and neither of those people are really touchy feely men so it means alot that your taking my opinion seriously and not being a jerk.

You're judging someone based on his avatar and username? Yet we shouldn't judge Sony for their giant fuckup as a supposed company of professionals and experts?

Well, here's the thing. We're talking about Sony being hacked, not some lame, weak, new company established 5 minutes ago by three teenagers. Sony has gained a worldwide reputation. The fact that they ventured into the online gaming realm should mean that they knew what they were doing. This includes knowing the potential online risks, a.k.a, hackers, crackers, whatever. In fact, they should have been more careful since they provided a free service. Why didn't the hackers try and pull this with the Xbox (Despite personal issues with Sony or whatever)? Because it wouldn't fly with Microsoft for oh so many reasons.

Now, personally, I'm not kicking Sony while they're down. Despite all this turmoil, I'll keep my PS3. Like I've always said, I've been playing offline my entire life; not playing online for a couple of weeks or months won't kill me. But I'm just disappointed. Disappointed because my personal information and credit card info has been exposed, more than anything. I mean, all of us literally put our trust in Sony and this happened. So I think we're all truly disappointed more than angry or anything else.

I know this was an accident. If they knew this was gonna happen, it wouldn't be an accident. I know they're working day and night in order to fix it. But remember that as consumers, people are hardly gonna stop and consider all this. This is an Instant gratification generation, especially if we're talking about the internet. People just want their stuff now. Yeah, I understand Sony's situation, so I'm just sitting here playing offline without a care in the world, waiting for the servers to come back up, keeping an eye on my bank account just in case. But it's only natural for other people to throw a fit about all this. In a way, they are entitled simply because of Sony's reputation and unwritten promise that they made to us when they decided to get into online gaming.

I was thinking of buying a ps3 before the hack (theres quite a few console-only games I'm sick of missing) and I still am afer the hack. What bothers me is this generic assumption that XBL is MORE secure. It is however, normal human reaction. Places have lost my custom based on one bad experience compared to 0 bad experiences, but usually in cases where there is more choice than 2.

The only difference between Xbox and PS3 servers is that if someone hacks Xbox, you can sue their pants off because they're not providing a service that you're paying to receive. PS3 online is for free (Except for PSNPlus members who are getting compensated anyway) so we can't do anything about it.

because of that, Microsoft is reaaaaally careful with hackers. You see, they like their pants and they'd want to keep them for a long time. So yeah, maybe Sony got overconfident. But again, it was an accident.
