Even if you think piracy needs to stop NOW, PRONTO, YESTERDAY - think again.
SOPA ("Stop Online Piracy Act") could tear the whole internet and us all a new one, and it would allow US-based entities to sue us all to the moon and back, be it from actual ARRR piracy, reviewing any copyrighted material without having obtained a license or discussing any movie/game/music with actual samples of the material in question. Not only would it allow to legally attack any provider of material that gets no US-based love, it would enable the US Department of Justice to go after anyone and anything that is somehow connected to the "infringing" or "offending" site, which probably sounds sweet in theory but in practice it's a huge to threat to... well, everything. It's been discussed here before, and it really looks like a nasty framework for "controlling" content on the internet, under american, sue-happy laws and without borders or limitations. We all risk getting sued pantsless, to infinity and beyond.
...or did I get this wrong, somehow? Would it really be in all our best interest to learn to love SOPA?
