Sound Issues with My Stereo

I'm hoping there's a few audiophiles here, as I'm having an issue with my stereo, and I'm hoping someone can help.

I came home yesterday and tried to listen to some music. When I turned on my stereo, there was a buzzing sound, not unlike those damned Vuvuzelas from the World Cup. The sound is also cracking.

At first, I thought it was my audio drivers, so I updated them, but to no avail. I tried changing the input around but it still makes the buzzing and crackling sound. I ruled out the speakers, as I also tried with just headphones. I thought maybe it was interference, so I removed the receiver to another room and tested it there, but alas, it still makes the buzzing and crackling noises. I removed the top of the receiver and cleaned it out as carefully as I could (I have no warranty as the stereo is almost ten years old).

Nothing has worked. I really frustrated with this, as I cannot afford to replace the receiver.

If it helps, it is a Pioneer VSX-D811S receiver. I've never had problems with it before yesterday. Pioneer are usually really good quality and can last for longer than I've owned this one.

Any suggestions or advice would be really helpful, as I have run up against a brick wall at this point, as it's my only means of audio for my computer, so no more music, game audio, or movies for me until this is corrected.

Thanks guys.

Have you tried by passing the receiver all together? and just plugging your headset straight into you PC? If the unit is 10 years old it doesn't surprise me at all if its dead/dieing.

Sounds like it's probably ground loop interferance. Unplug everything from it. Connect one speaker set and then use the tuner. It the reciever still crackels or hum then your reciever is about to die. If it fixes the issue there is a ground loop with one of your components. Check them each one at a time to find the problem source. You may need to get ground loop isolator.

Thanks for the assist guys. Nothing has worked and the only place in town will charge about 100 bucks to fix it. Gah frustration.

Ah well.

Thanks a lot for your replies guys.
