I never leave the house without these:

Just follow my patented three step process:
1) Attach to iPod/MP3 player.
2) Insert them into your ears.
3) Turn on Beethoven Symphony at low-moderate volume.

For best results, close eyes.

IEM's are the best retreat from your aggreesively noisy daily life.

I enjoy listening to loud rock music for the hell of it, and I can't do homework without background noise, but I can't stand it when people play loud rap music in cars or on iPods.

My opinion is, play as loud as you want, as long as I don't have to hear it.

What about those stupid high voltage electric lines? Those are super annoying.
I like it all a little subdued, except when I am playing my music(e.g. performing),
that usually gets a little loud.

I often want earplugs at concerts lol
Why?
Because it gives me the awesome of the performance without tinitus afterwards
I prefer mid-level sounds
Loud enough to drive you, but not so loud as to kill your cochlea

More noise means more emotion, which triggers more of response in me. I'd crank everything up to eleven if I could.
Perhaps a greater presence of noise, but not a greater volume. Why crank everything up to 11? A lot of emotion in a lot of moments and interactions comes from the volume at which they are presented.

If someone you know, who is normally pretty average to loud, is oddly quiet you realize something is wrong. Without this hint do you think you would really pick up on this?
Bah, who needs subtle nuances of social interaction when you've got METAL RINGING SO LOUD IN YOUR EARS YOU'RE DEAF BY THE END OF THE PLAYLIST!

I hate the sound that TV screens emit as well, and I seem to be the only person in my home who can hear them.
Are you the youngest person in your house?
After, like, 23 you stop hearing high sounds as much

I can't stand having the television on any louder than a low speaking level. It just bothers me to no end if it's any higher.

Alright, I'll bite.

Yes, I'm rather particular about sound and noise. For the record, I'm a guy who does impressions and makes sound effects for amusement. Not annoyingly, but for color in an otherwise drab day. You probably can't even hear me unless I do it to make light of an occasion. So anyway, here's my rundown...

Loud music: No problem. I love it.
Loud music with enough bass to shake a car apart (and people DO THIS): Hell no. You're insane.
Sound effects: Sure, why not? I do them.
Sound effects that are grating like rusty nails over a chalkboard: NO!! And I'll probably try to kill you.
Partying: Wait for me! I wanna play too!
Screaming like a banshee (this includes kids): Put a sock in it!

You see where I'm going with this? Noises and sounds associated with good times, laughter, and generally kicking ass in a rock out loud kind of way are good. Bleating, whining, horribly ear-fucking sounds need to go die in a fire (like the one I'll set because my tolerance for these things is TINY). It all depends on where they fit in.

My advice: Get birds. I have three of the little noiseboxes, and you learn very quickly how to tune noises out. I don't even hear them anymore, and now i can selectively tune out car alarms, televisions, computer fan noise (my macbook is a noisy little jerk), and just about anything i want.

I don't think I could ever really settle on a comfortable noise level. It all rather depends on the nature of the sound.

Take, for example, an electric guitar. I think that they sound at their best when they are seriouly loud[/b, whereas I tend to prefer the sound of an acoustic guitar when it's much more quiet and mellow.

The only loud noise i like is my music. I don't mind films being loud either. Actually, discount that first sentence, i'm fine with things being loud so long as it's not people. I can't stand loud people, they make me seriously angry and very irritable.

I prefer loud for when I play music, or when I play Rock Band/ Guitar Hero to drown out the clicking noise of the controller.
