Truth, I do have to say I prefer the Black Hawk Down soundtrack though. Blew me away.
Call me crazy, but I actually did NOT know he composed BHD. Had I known that, it would have been right up there.
God I love that movie :D

I love Tarantino's choices for songs in his movies, but taken out of context (i.e. buying the soundtrack) the songs just aren't that great. For instance the music in Death Proof greatly improved the film but the songs themselves didn't pack a punch at all.

Queen of the damned. Fucking brilliant. I even bought the album...
Hated the movie but I agree that it had a great soundtrack. Especially the Disturbed song.

I guess my favourite soundtrack is the Scorpion King's soundtrack. Terrible movie, great music. But I didn't put any thought into my answer. I'm sure if I thought about it my answer would change.

I've gotta say, having just watched Watchmen, the soundtrack to that is immense, especially the intro:

Really need to listen to more Bob Dylan...

But also, one of my all-time favourite composers is Michael Kamen or Band of Brothers fame. More specifically, this absolutely beautiful piece of music:

Also, the soundtrack to Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima were pretty amazing:

And last but not least - Black Hawk Down. Hans Zimmer and Joe Strummer are legends:

Phew, all done :)

Lalo Schifrin. He did the soundtracks for BULLITT, Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, Rush Hour, Sudden Impact, Enter the Dragon, The Cincinnati Kid, Planet of the Apes(TV Series), The Dead Pool, Mission Imposible, Cold Hand Luke and more.

EDIT:Added some that I forgot about.

Same. I watch it at least once every couple of months as some kind of man-ritual. I always tear up by the time the end credits begin to roll *sniffs*

LoTR has some beautiful pieces in it. I love the part when the Rohan horsemen are doing the massive charge across the plains in the third film, and there is just that single violin playing the Rohan theme. Very haunting.

And Watchmen goes without saying :p Bob Dylan FTW

Holy Cow! It's my 1000th post. Isn't that wonderful.

Congrats on the Gonzo :) And I know what you mean, I saw Watchmen for the first time a few days ago and I've not stopped listening to 'The Times They Are A Changin'' :p

I agree with your Deathnote and higurashi assessment. Eureka 7 and Macross Frontier also had a nice soundtrack. Especially Macross Frontier. After all, music is a weapon in that series.
Argh! Macross Frontier! NO! While the music was good, the usage in the series was not! It was extremely cheesy! I mean, what the hell, combining pop music with aerial dogfights?! I will agree with Death Note, Elfen Lied and Higurashi having great music. But my personal favourite has to be the Hell Girl Soundtracks.

As for games, let the award go to none other than Michiru Yamane and the Castlevania series. Enough said.

And as for movies, Lord of the Rings comes to mind with its very memorable theme. Although, it does tend to remind me a bit of Monty Python and the Holy Grail's prelude to Knights of the Round Table. My mind must be playing tricks on me.

P.s. I am aware that other Macross series might be making usage of the music in the same ways. I also do not approve of them. I hate musicals!

Han's Zimmler has created some fantastic tracks - his work on Black Hawk Down, The Lion King and The Prince of Egypt is all fantastic.

I thought Watchmen had an excellent soundtrack, along with some old Disney movies I won't mention. Fight Club had a great one as well, from what I remember.

Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Phillip Glass = Win.

Best soundtrack in a film ever, IMO. The music makes the film.

Agreed. Even better than The Good, the Bad and the Ugly soundtrack. But I think we has this conversation a few days back, so I won't repeat it :p

Yeah, it goes so well with the opening credits scene thing. I'm not very familiar with Bob Dylan, but that was the song that made me want ot listen to more of his stuff.

The Sound of Silence at the funeral was amazing too. It's just a shame they cut it short at what seemed to me, a very inopportune moment.

Also, I've just remembered another example of good use of music in a film. The bit in Goodfellas when they are walking into the theatre through the kitchens and back rooms, and "And then he kissed me" by The Crystals (I think) is playing.

In fact, I'm surprised no one has mentioned that already...

i loved the Watchmen soundtrack until the credits, when MCR took a giant steaming dump all over Desolation Row and ruined the entire thing for me.

I know it's wrong of me, but I actually like their version...

I would have preferred it to be the Dylan version, but I guess two of his songs in one film might be overkill :p

Sorry for the repeat thread. I hadn't seen anything like it recently and it was something that was on my mind, so I thought I'd go ahead and make a thread about it.

Guess I should've used the sacred search-bar :(

EDIT: dang-nabit, a double post too :(

[HEADING=2]Noir[/HEADING]. One of the most acclaimed aspects of Noir is it's beautiful soundtrack:

As for composer(s).....

[HEADING=1]E.S. Posthumus.[/HEADING] God...their stuff is incredible, and IMO you're bound to have heard at least one of their pieces:

Twilight Princess. I love the music! Film-wise, I'd have to say Gladiator or Lord of the Rings.
