Well... after reading about the 3 month old... I can sort of see where they are coming from. Some thing drastic needs to be done, I don't know if this will solve the problem... but at least it's an attempt.

Well my suggestion would be to work on fixing their society, so people would seek less escapism, and thus spend less timing gaming. My usual response to such things.
Yeah I'm with Therumancer on this one, sort of, see we all have access to games just like they do however most of the world doesn't have the problem of this extreme gaming addiction on such a large scale... maybe the problem doesn't lie just in gaming. Maybe there's a bigger problem that needs addressing on why people are going to these extremes to escape from reality.

Considering South Korea has had various deaths from people playing too long and dying my starvation or dehydration, it actually sounds reasonable.

So while underage kids are forced out of games, parents can still kill their children from neglect while they stay online for days at a time?

Buh? When did we start posting news articles in forum threads?

Despite what I should be saying considering my under-age-ed-ness, I think this is a good idea. I nearly failed my GCSEs due to a game addiction, and I'd not like to hear of more lives tarnished the same way.

Make a new account with an older age. By-passed. Seriously, if there's ever a website which needs me to be 18 or over, i just set my age to 18 or over like on some of IGN's video's. Doesn't make a difference whatsoever.

Restrictive laws only work on minority acts, like how only a tiny majority of any society ever try to burglarious their neighbours homes people, that's why we can have laws against theft.

But this "Games Prohibition" is going to fail as I think way too many people are doing it, step one should be to reduce numbers of "gaming addicts" (if such a condition even exists) before implementing a policy like this.

So the block them from playing the paltry 19 Korean based MMO's big whoop, whats to stop them from hooking up to our versions of the games in other countries? They already do it to sell us gold so why not do it to beat the man at his own game.

WHY is it that they have such obsessive gamers in Korea/Japan? Don't tell me "it's the same amount as other countries but they're more noticable/vocal", because that's not true, it can't be!
I think it's just an Asian thing. /minor sarcasm

My question: Why do they have so many damned bicycles!?
The roads are to cramped/ nonexistent

Could work, personally I don't care how much governments screw over people under 18, I'm an adult, I put up with the crap when I was a teenager, so ha ha you're turn now, don't worry you'll grow up eventually.

Well this seems like a decent idea. We all know these kids will hack the system very quickly though (they're some of the most hardcore in the world), but the thought's there, and that's what matters.

Good for them. If the parents don't want to be parents, let the government do its job. And thankfully, it only affects minors, the ones who don't have any rights except whatever the parents give them.

Woah, had me worried for a second there. Glad it's just MMOs and just minors that would be affected, and I can keep playing L4D2 as late as I like.

I strognly agree with this!
In college i had to do a report on the dangers of video gaming. Pretty much every story about death, illness and neglect due to video games all happened in the Korean area. At least a filter on gaming hours will stop most incidents. Also, internet cafes should have a time limit, 3 hours per user or somethign simlair.

I guess I can see the point from both sides of the argument.

I'm all for 'freedom of whatever you want to do, go f yourself if you don't like it' kind of thinking... but mmos are hideously addictive. They have restrictions on smoking, drinking, porn etc. for kids so I guess it's not unreasonable to come up with something that has so much influence over there.

Still.. Thankfully I'm an adult now and no longer living there.

1 direct, 2 indirect over the past year? Yeah, sure we need to tell an entire country what they should think to prevent a few more idiots from removing themselves from the gene pool.

The very fact that people need their government to impose controls like this, to stop them from killing themselves is insane O.O just how sad are they.

I can play computer for aages, but playing long enough to kill yourself is little short pathetic.

If people are stupid enough the kill themselves playing a online MMO then let them. If you're dumb enough to let an MMO kill you then I really don't see the point in trying to stop them.

I agree, natural selection, these people getting themselves killed over a gaming addiction only improves the gene pool for the rest of us.

But what is worse is that, now a minority of idiots mess it all up for everyone else.
