You are not alone! I used to like it, for the first couple of episodes, but then I realised how horribly demeaning it was. Every character fit every single horrible geek stereotype and I soon realised it wasn't laughing with me but at me. For something that I think is supposed to be for geeks, it sure does enjoy insulting them. Once you carve out a couple of sciency lines of dialogue you can also see what a horrifically boring, cliché sit-com it is.Relish in Chaos said:it's more tolerable than some other sitcoms (e.g. The Big Bang Theory, although at my school, it seems I'm in the minority for actually disliking it).
I would grant this. There is some decent acting there. Shame about the actual characters.TheBobmus said:See, I can have controversial opinions! Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon, is brilliant at all the little nervous ticks which make his part. Some of the others are perhaps not the best, but there's a reason his character wins him awards.
I would have listened to you, but then you stated that absurd lie at the end of your paragraph.cynicalandbored said:Occasionally it falls flat, but personally I love it. It humour may be hit and miss, but it's a lot more sophisticated than it seems to be on the face of it. It's not hateful like someone above has suggested, and it demonises very few groups in any real way. If it does, it just do so in order to emphasise a particular ridiculous point or prejudice.
Also, The Big Bang Theory is pure comedy gold.
I actually like this appraoch if it is handled correctly. Most of the times in South Park it is, because they take the joke in different directions and expand upon it. But in a few cases, like with the sexaddicts and humancent-iPad episode, they already exhaust the joke within the first five minutes but simply keep hammering on it for the remaining run time.DustyDrB said:It's too long for its own good: A lot of the episodes center around THE BIG POINT. They will hammer this big point home. Over...and over...and over...and over. The joke stops being funny and starts being annoying or just boring. Since they often build episodes around a single joke, it seems they would sometimes benefit from the show's length being halved.
that's probably because it's an extremely silly 'principle'.Gluzzbung said:Also, people don't understand that its against my principals to watch cartoons when I'm older than twelve.
